Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 30 May 2023

Wednesday

Weather

A bit of a cloudy morning but it should become super-sunny again in the afternoon. The NE’ly will continue to nag, but not with quite so much gusto as the previous days. Just moderate force 4 to fresh force 5 for the majority of the day. If it does get up to strong force 6 at any time then it will probably be overnight into Thursday. Max temp 16°C, min temp 11-12°C.

Surf and the Water

Forecast models still show a little hint of surfable west-coast waves in the late afternoon and evening. Otherwise, it’s just a continuing story of good windsurfing/kite-surfing conditions around the north of the island and reasonable swimming conditions in the most sheltered south-coast nooks and in one or two of the west-coast bays around high water. Those tidal movements will be slightly larger than the past few days, with a low at 10:40am and a high of 7.5m at 4:50pm.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

As with Wednesday, the mornings will be on the cloudy side but the afternoons should be mostly sunny (oh and needless to say… dry as a bone again). Temperatures will remain lower than most of us would like too. Thursday will have some marginally warmer air over the islands, so we might just scrape 17°C in the warmest spots, but with that NE’ly wind blowing fresh force 5 to strong force 6 it really isn’t going to feel very special. Friday’s wind much the same, but with a mass of colder air moving across the islands we will struggle to even reach 15°C.

Surf and the Water

Flat surf on the west coast again, but still good for windsurfing and kite-surfing up on the north coast, and not too bad for swimming in the most sheltered of sheltered nooks (mainly down south). Tides will be low around midday and high around dawn and dinner time (incrementally increasing from about 7.7m on Thursday morning to 8.3m on Friday evening).

The Weekend

Weather

There is still no rain on the menu, none at the weekend and probably none next week either. Just more sunshine and the odd patch of cloud in the mornings. The winds blowing relentlessly from that NE’ly direction, but not quite as strong as the previous two days… this time it will be moderate force 4 to fresh force 5. Temperatures should therefore nudge back up to 16°C on Saturday and then 17°C on Sunday. Big tides on these two days, so the south coast beaches will be big and sandy at lunchtime, and it shouldn’t be too bad for a little venture to Lihou.

Surf and the Water

More flatness in the surf department, but reasonably good winds for your kites and your sails. The high tides will be best for swimming in those most sheltered southern and western nooks (generally before breakfast or around dinner time).

The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
