Wednesday and Thursday
Weather
The last two days of crazy annoying ENE’ly winds (well they will still be blowing on Friday but not nearly so strong on that day). On these two days, the ENE’ly will be fresh force 5 for the majority of the time but it will probably amp up to strong force 6 at times. Skies will be sunny for the majority of the time, but there will be some low cloud and perhaps some mist patches on Wednesday morning, and there will also be some high cloud that will thicken up on Thursday afternoon, meaning that the sunshine turns rather hazy at that time. Max temps will be about 18°C on both days, with Torteval and St Saviour being the warmest parishes. Escaping the wind will be difficult, but there will be a few cosy pockets along the west-coast sea walls and the south-coast cliffs.
Surf and the Water
Flat surf and not the best swimming conditions either, due to the strength of the wind. However, this will mean good conditions for kite-surfing and windsurfing. High tides will be 8.6m at 9:40am on Friday and 8.3m at 10:30am on Thursday. Low tides will be in the late afternoons.
Friday and Saturday
Weather
By dawn Friday, we will probably have seen the first spits and spots of rainfall in for over three weeks. It’s unlikely to be much at that time though, because it will be falling from very high clouds, so the majority of it will evaporate on the way down. The heavier showers will probably come overnight and into Saturday morning and they might well be thundery. These thundery showers are always a bit hit and miss though, so we could receive anything from 1mm to 10mm, so it’s not guaranteed to give our gardens the full amount of water that they’ve been thirsting for. Aside from the rainfall story, we are mostly looking at cloudy skies but with spells of warm sunshine managing to sneak through at times. Winds will be force 3 to 4 ENE’ly on Friday and then variable force 1 to 3 on Saturday, hopefully leading to daily max temps of 20°C. (Watch out for the odd fog bank on Saturday though, which might roll onto the north and west coasts through the second half of the day).
Surf and the Water
Still no waves for surfers I’m afraid. However, the relative calmness will greatly improve swimming and paddle-boarding conditions, compared to recent windy days. High tides will be 8.1m at 11:20am on Friday and 7.8m at 12:20pm on Saturday. Low tides will be around dinnertime.
Sunday and Monday
Weather
A couple of uncertain days, because some models are looking warm and sunny. Other models have us covered in mist and fog for the most part. It all depends on the wind direction, which at the moment is very uncertain. Being close to the centre of a high pressure system, we can be sure that those winds will be very light, so it will at least be comfortable. However, the uncertainty about the weather does lead to great uncertainty about the temperature, therefore the daily maxima could be anything between 16 and 22°C.
Surf and the Water
We should have clean 1 foot waves that might be rideable for longboards and SUPs. There is a slim chance that the waves could be 2 feet and more reliably surfable, but we will probably have to wait a couple more days for that. Once again, swimming conditions should be good due to the lightness of the wind. High tides will be 7.6m around 1:30pm on Sunday and 7.5m around 2:30pm on Monday. Low tides will be around breakfast time and towards dusk.
The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
