Guernsey Weather Fox

Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 17 June 2023

Saturday

Weather

Light force 1 to 3 NNE’ly breezes will bring a mostly cloudy day, but general bright due to the cloud being very high above the ground, and not without a few rays of stronger sunshine slipping through the cracks. The only real chance of showers is during the first half of the morning and then again after dusk. There could well be some thunder and lightning overnight, but dramatic as that sounds, it might all pass by on the horizon… visible and audible but not actually giving us any rain. It’s all a bit hit and miss… we might end up with nothing but there is also a chance of catching 5-10mm from a brief but heavy downpour. Daytime max 22-24°C (depending on the timing of cloud-breaks), overnight min 14-16°C (depending whether we stay dry or not).

Surf and the Water

Clean 2 to 3 foot surf. Excellent swimming conditions all around the island. Great for kayaking and paddle-boarding too. Tides will be high at 6.45am and 7pm (roughly 8.4m). Low tides will be at lunchtime.

Sunday

Weather

Again, the distribution of the showers means there is a chance that the islands could slip between the cracks and stay dry, but because the showers will be more widespread and heavier than on Saturday, we really are far more likely to get drenched. The greatest chance being during the afternoon, when a large area of thunderstorms are expected to cross the area from Brest to Cherbourg. Currently it looks as though Jersey is likely to get the lions’ share of this, but it would only take the smallest shift in the overall pattern for Guernsey to become the focus. Either way, skies will be mostly cloudy and perhaps a little misty… only a few brief rays of sunshine, so temperatures although feeling very sticky will probably be a degree or two lower than on Saturday. The winds very similar though… northerly or variable light force 1 to 3.

Surf and the Water

Clean 1 to 2 foot surf and yet more lovely smooth water for swimming, etc. Tides will be high at 7.30am and 7.45pm (roughly 8.5m). Low tide will be at lunchtime again.

Next Week

Weather

This will be a very typical week of quality summer weather, so the good news is plenty of warmth (temperatures peaking in the low twenties on some days and in the mid-twenties on other days). Winds will vary in direction from day to day, but they will always be light, meaning life comfortable and good for nearly all outdoor activity. The wind direction will vary from day to day and this will influence when we are most likely to catch a second had French thunderstorm, or a lighter shower, or perhaps a wandering bank of sea mist. Right now, however, the subtle daily differences are very difficult to pin down with any certainty, so I shall not go into much greater detail than this general summary. Currently the greatest chance of getting wet appears to be on Tuesday, and the chance of mistiness will be there every day but it will always be greatest in the mornings.

Surf and the Water

1-2 foot surf on Monday and perhaps again on Thursday and Friday, otherwise flat. Beautiful conditions for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding every day. You just have to pick your favourite bay according to the tides… low in the afternoons, high in the mornings and around dusk (8.7m at the start of the week, gradually shrinking to 7.7m by the end of the week).

The next forecast update will be on Tuesday morning…
