Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 20 June 2023

Tuesday

Weather

Monday night’s heavy rain brought slightly cooler air to the islands, but it also changed the wind flow to a gentle W’ly, meaning that it is bringing moisture in the form of mist patches, coming off the sea at times, then pushing up the slopes and potentially thickening into fog around the airport area. Any such poor conditions should wax and wane, so it’s not likely that any disruption will be particularly prolonged. The main risk is through the morning and the evening. Through the afternoon, the wind should back to a more favourable S’ly direction and fall almost calm, allowing the sunshine to really get to work on the island. Max temperatures 19-20°C in most areas, but 21-22°C around Town.

Surf and the Water

That nice little swell of the weekend is properly over now, so it’s a flat story for surfers but it’s still good news for swimmers, kayakers and paddle-boarders, especially if the east coast is your destination of choice. High tides will be 8.3m at 8:50am and 8.5m at 8:55pm. Low tide will be at 3pm.

Wednesday and Thursday

Weather

With high pressure either directly over the Channel or very nearby, the breeze will be light force 1 to 3 throughout (S’ly through most of Wednesday and NW’ly through most of Thursday), making conditions extremely comfortable and easy for outdoor activity, whether that be school sports, dog-walking, gardening, painting or whatever. Rain is out of the question, even if you do see a little bubbly cloud at times. Likewise, there shouldn’t be any fog, except perhaps for the odd shallow patch over marshes and golf courses etc, first thing in the morning. Max temperatures will be about the same as on Tuesday… 19-20°C in most areas, but 21-22°C around Town. Min temps around 14-15°C. All rather typical for the Summer Solstice.

Surf and the Water

More flatness for surfers on Wednesday, but maybe a weak 1 to 2 foot pulse on Thursday. Otherwise we are talking about yet more lovely smooth water for swimming, etc. Tidal movements will be medium large, with highs around mid-morning and dusk, and lows in the late afternoons.

Friday and The Weekend

Weather

Apart from a risk of some mist or fog patches in the mornings, these three days should be increasingly sunny and warm/hot. Friday will have a very light and floppy breeze, but it will subtly shift from a NW’ly direction to a S’ly, which will allow warm French air to begin its northward invasion. As such Friday’s max should be between 22°C and 24°C, depending on your precise location (Town warmest again). Through the weekend, the breeze should be SE’ly and the firmer French influence that this will bring, should raise the max temperature by about a degree per day, meaning that the lofty figures like 26°C are not out of the question (even if your phone app is telling you it will only be 20°C).

Surf and the Water

The surf should be roughly 1 foot on Friday, 2 feet on Saturday and hopefully as much as 3 feet on Sunday. Conditions will remain gorgeous for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding, especially along the north and west coasts. High tides will be in the late mornings (medium-small), low tides will be in the late afternoons Friday and Saturday, then early evening on Sunday.

The next forecast update will be on Friday morning…
