Friday
Weather
Some low cloud and a chance of mist or fog patches in the morning, otherwise beautifully sunny, with lighter breezes than on Thursday, so temperatures will therefore be a bit higher. Winds will only be light force 1-3, but they will be coming from a WSW’ly direction for the most part, meaning that eastern areas will be warmest… max temperatures 22°C in most parts of the island but probably reaching 23-24°C in St Peter Port and St Sampson.
Surf and the Water
Some rideable 1 foot surf isn’t out of the question, so there might just be some fun rides for kids at the end of the school week. Swimming and paddle-boarding conditions will be nice and smooth around the island, especially along the west and north coasts during the evening. Tides will be high at 10:35am (7.5m) and low at 4:40pm.
Saturday
Weather
Pure blistering sunshine. Watch out though, because burn time will be real quick with the UV index peaking at 8 through the middle part of the day. Winds will be light force 2-3 E’ly through the daytime, picking up to moderate force 4 in the evening. Max temperatures 23-24°C in most parts of the island but probably reaching 25°C in Torteval and St Pierre.
Surf and the Water
Gorgeous smooth water for swimming and paddle-boarding, and some super-clean 2-3 foot waves for surfers. Not very powerful, but so much better than the near-flatness of the previous few days. Tides will be high at 11:10am (7.3m) and low at 5:20pm.
Sunday
Weather
The first half of the day will be just as sunny and hot as Saturday or perhaps even slightly hotter. However, when the force 3-4 S’ly breeze switches to a NW’ly in the afternoon, we are likely to see a spell of mist and fog, followed by better visibilities but much cooler air. It will probably be a totally dry day, but there is a very slim chance of thundery shower around lunchtime or early afternoon. Keep an eye on local forecasts to see if that story develops. Temperatures will peak somewhere between 23 and 26°C, just depending on the timing of that wind-change in the afternoon.
Surf and the Water
Clean 2-3 foot waves in the morning, becoming more choppy in the afternoon. As the wind starts to ruffle the sea in the late afternoon and evening, we might just have the first decent kite-surfing that we’ve had for a while. Meanwhile, the east coast will be the place to go for smooth-water swimming. Tides will be high at 11:50am (7.1m) and low at 6pm.
Next Week
Weather
A week of mixed cloud and sunshine and broadly W’ly winds… sometimes nudging towards a NW’ly, sometimes nudging towards a SW’ly. Those winds will be lighter in the first half of the week (force 2 to 4), then stronger in the second half (force 3 to 5). Likewise the first half of the week is looking bone dry, but the second half looks likely to bring a few showers. Temperatures will always be highest in Town, with likely maxima of 21-23°C.
Surf and the Water
Choppy 2-4 foot surf on most days, but probably a bit cleaner on Tuesday. Windsurfers and kite-surfers might find a bit of fun too, especially towards the end of the week. As for swimming conditions, they will generally be best along the east coast. Tidal movements will be very small, with lunchtime highs of just under 7m on Monday and Tuesday, just picking up slightly each day after that, until Friday’s high is 7.7m in the late afternoon.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
