Thursday
Weather
Wednesday night’s rain should be chased away bright and early (roughly 7 or 8am) by a moderate NW’ly breeze, there’s a slim chance of a shower or two later in the morning, but we are most probably just looking at a gradual reduction in cloud, leading to a fabulously sunny afternoon. That NW’ly breeze won’t be too toasty though, so temperatures will only peak at 19-20°C in exposed northwestern areas, and around 21°C in the sheltered southeast.
Surf and the Water
Choppy 2-4 foot surf on the west coast and a slim chance of some clean 1 footers for body-surfers down on the south coast. If you’re going for a sea swim then the south and east coasts will be the most sheltered and smooth. Low water will be around 9:45 am and 10:15pm. High water will be about 7.3m at 3:50pm.
Friday
Weather
A cloudier and damper day than previously expected. The morning will probably be dry but rather grey, with a force 4 SW’ly wind. Then, through the afternoon and evening, the wind will gradually spruce up to a force 5 W’ly and the cloud will thicken and lower, making rain and drizzle increasingly likely.
Surf and the Water
More 2-4 foot surf, but it will be a bit cleaner than on Thursday. The best swimming locations will be on the north and east coasts on this occasion. Low water will be at 10:45am. High water will be about 7.7m at 4:50pm.
The Weekend
Weather
Saturday’s forecast has actually improved… much like on Thursday, the rain will clear off fairly early in the morning to leave us with a lovely sunny afternoon. The force 5 W’ly wind will be a bit of a spoiler, but areas like Town and Fermain will be nicely sheltered, so the max temperature of 19-20°C should feel pretty pleasant in those parts. Sunday should stay dry but the temperature will be about the same, as slightly cloudier skies are balanced by a slightly lighter W’ly wind.
Surf and the Water
The surf looks quite chunky but choppy… 4-6 feet on Saturday and 3 to 5 feet on Sunday. Swimmers will certainly find the smoothest water along the east coast again. Tides will be getting fairly large, with high water before breakfast and then again around dinner time… increasing a little each time, starting off at 7.8m on Saturday morning’s high and finishing at 8.6m on Sunday evening’s high.
Next Week
Weather
Another changeable week, with W’ly or SW’ly breezes bringing dry weather for the majority of the time, and a mixture of cloudy/sunny skies. There will be a few showers here and there, but it’s really uncertain which days they will fall on… currently Wednesday and Thursday look most likely, but this could easily change as the time approaches. Winds will be moderate force 4 on Monday and Tuesday and then they should ease off to just light force 2-3 for the rest of the week, meaning that the daily max temperatures will probably rise from around 21°C at the start of the week to 23°C by the end.
Surf and the Water
Fairly big tides all week, with highs ranging between 8.6m and 9.4m (mornings and evenings). Low tides in the afternoons. The surf will be small and sloppy for the most part... mainly 1-2 feet, but hopefully 2-3 feet from Wednesday onward. Swimming conditions will be generally best out east, but when winds fall light then the other coasts will become nice and smooth too.
The next forecast update will be on Friday…
