Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 03 July 2023

Tuesday

Weather

A mix bag of cloud and sunshine. The cloud tending to dominate the morning and early afternoon, leading to the possibility of a few light showers during that time. In the late afternoon and evening, sunshine will prevail mid-Channel whilst some heavy rain develops near the French coast. At the moment, it looks as though Jersey might cop a thorough soaking at that time but Guernsey ought to fall on the sunny side of the fence. It’s a bit close for comfort though, so it might be a good idea to check the Channel Islands weather radar to see if things are going to plan. Winds will be force 3-4 SW’ly in the morning, veering W’ly in the afternoon. Max temperatures should be 19-20°C in most areas, but probably 21°C around Town.

Surf and the Water

The 1-3 foot surf will be very weak and sloppy, but it should be pretty clean in the morning. Swimming conditions will generally be best in along the north and east coasts, but the west coast will also have some pockets of smoothness during the morning. High water will be at 8am and 8:20pm (8.8m and 9.2m respectively), low water will be at 2:20pm.

Wednesday

Weather

Just the slimmest chance of a brief light shower, but most probably dry with quite a lot more sunshine than Tuesday. However, the force 3-4 W’ly wind will bring slightly cooler air, meaning that it will all balance out to give the same max temperatures… 19-20°C in most areas, but probably 21°C around Town.

Surf and the Water

Choppy sloppy 1-2 foot surf on the west coast, but silky smooth water for swimmers on the east coast. High water will be at 8:50am and 9:05pm (9m and 9.4m respectively), low water will be at 3:10pm.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Ooh yes, some proper warmth and sunshine… max temps of 20-22°C on Thursday then 22-24°C on Friday. This temperature increase coming from a favourable wind-shift. Starting with Thursday, very light winds on Thursday (force 2-3 SW’ly in the morning then force 1-2 SE’ly in the afternoon). Moving on to Friday, the wind will stay SE’ly but increase to light force 3… strong enough for some French heat to reach us, but light enough to be great for most outdoor activities. As for the chance of rain, well we might just cop a thundery downpour after dusk on Friday, but the rest of the time should be nice and dry.

Surf and the Water

I’m afraid the surf will most likely be flat. However, if we do catch a few 1-2 foot ripples (suitable for kids and SUPs) then they will at least be super-clean. Swimming conditions should be gorgeous on all coasts, especially around high tide (mid-mornings… roughly 9m). Obviously some places will be lovely through the afternoon low tides as well… Cobo and Petit Port spring to mind.

The Weekend

Weather

Both days present a risk of thundery showers before dawn, then again around dusk. However, we should stay dry for the bulk of the time, with partial sunshine and temperatures continuing to peak in the mid-twenties, just like Friday. The wind will be a very light force 3 S’ly through Saturday, then it will likely drop off to an almost imperceptible force 1-2 W’ly by the end of Sunday.

Surf and the Water

Probably some clean 2-3 footers on Saturday morning, gradually dropping back to 1 foot dribble through the rest of the weekend. Swimming conditions will be especially good along the west and north coasts. High water will be around 11am on Saturday and midday on Sunday (8.7m and 8.3m respectively). Low water will be in the early mornings and around dinner time.

The next forecast update will be on Wednesday…
