Friday
Weather
Scorchio! Solid sunshine and a gentle breeze from the continent… force 2-3 SE’ly in the morning then force 3-4 E’ly in the afternoon. This will all result in a top temperature of about 25°C. Watch out for sunburn, the UV index will peak at 7 around lunchtime. That will sound lovely to many people. However, the overnight temperature won’t sound so pleasant… only falling to a minimum of 18°C. That muggy feeling is often means a thunderstorm is on the doorstep and indeed this may be the case towards the very end of the night.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean but very weak 1-2 foot surf. Ideal for young kids or for grown-ups with enormous floaty longboards. Swimming conditions will be great in all areas through most of the day, but it will certainly be best to stick to the west or south coasts in the late afternoon and evening. The tide will be high around 10:25am (8.8m) and low around 4:40pm.
The Weekend
Weather
Both days promise some hazy sunshine in the afternoons but we are looking at cloudy skies with showers (possibly thundery) during the mornings and maybe as late as lunchtime. The air will still be warm and muggy but, with much less sunshine, the temperature isn’t likely to climb any higher than 22°C on Saturday and 21°C on Sunday. Saturday’s winds will be force 3-4 SW’ly in the morning, then light and variable in the afternoon. Sunday’s breeze will just be force 2-3 S’ly all day long. Night time temperatures shouldn’t be as stifling as on Friday night… probably falling to a minimum of 15°C on both of these nights.
Surf and the Water
Probably some clean 3-4 surf late Saturday and early Sunday. Otherwise, we are looking at 1-2 foot surf and plenty of gorgeous conditions for swimming, kayaking or paddle-boarding. High water will be around 11am on Saturday and midday on Sunday (8.7m and 8.3m respectively). Low water will be in the early mornings and around dinner time.
Next Week
Weather
Stronger SW’ly winds (mainly moderate force 4 but occasionally fresh force 5) will bring some more average weather and temperatures throughout the week. Daily max temperatures will generally be around 20°C, but 21-22°C should be achievable in Town. Nightly min temps will be around 13-15°C. Each day is likely to see a shower or two, but there will be plenty of sunny spells in between. The wettest spell of all looks likely to be late Monday and early Tuesday. Through that time we are likely to see between 4 and 12mm of rain. Otherwise, we can generally expect about 1-3mm per day, so the fields and gardens should be thriving.
Surf and the Water
Cleanish waves on most days… 2-3 feet on the smallest days and 4-6 feet on the biggest. There could be some good conditions for kite-surfing and windsurfing along the west and north coasts. As for the swimming conditions, they will generally be best along the east coast, but there will be some sheltered pockets along the west and the north coasts at times. Tidal movements will be medium-small, with afternoon highs of between 7.3m and 7.9m.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday…
