Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 12 July 2023

Wednesday and Thursday

Weather

Sunshine and isolated towers of bubbly cloud, that could possibly drift overhead and deliver a light shower, but the likelihood is far greater that they will simply decorate the horizon. Air temperatures will be decidedly average, but the UV index will still be high (peaking at 7) so it will be important to protect your skin between the hours of 10am and 4pm. Daily maxima… 20-21°C in most areas but 22°C in Town. Nightly minima… 13-15°C.

Surf and the Water

Choppy 2-3 foot surf on Wednesday, followed by sloppy 1-2 foot surf on Thursday. Swimming conditions will be best in eastern parts, but some other spots such as Pembroke, Petit Bot and Saints Bay will find some decent shelter too. Low tide will be around breakfast time both days. High tides will be 7.3m both days… 3pm Wednesday and 4pm Thursday.

Friday and Saturday

Weather

Saturday will have a SSE’ly breeze, due to being on the edge of a low pressure system that will go on to make us wet overnight and at times on Saturday. That SSE’ly breeze will draw warmer air over the islands, but the impressive temperatures (23-25°C maxima) will be counter-balanced out by the strength of the wind and the thickening layers of cloud. Yes indeed, it will be blowing fresh force 5 for the majority of the day, possibly even cranking up to strong force 6 by evening time, when the first of the rain arrives. By Saturday morning, we will be in a similarly strong SW’ly and we will have a pretty straight forward day of sunshine and showers (21-23°C maxima). Head to Town or Fermain to find the most warmth and shelter.

Surf and the Water

Regrettably tiny 1 foot surf (if that) whilst conditions are super-clean on Friday. Saturday will not be particularly messy though, and we could see wave heights pick up to 2-3 feet on that day. Wind-sports will definitely be more exciting though. Swimming conditions will be best around high tide on both days, there will be lots of sheltered nooks if you take a look around high tide (any coast except the south). Low water will be around 11am Friday and midday Saturday. High water will be around 5pm Friday and 6pm Sunday (roughly 7.6m and 7.9m respectively).

Sunday and Next Week

Weather

After the vigorous weather (mainly wind) of the Island Games’ closing days, Sunday should mark the transition to what will likely be a calmer spell of weather next week. Sunday morning and early afternoon will feel very much like Saturday (sunshine and showers with fresh WSW’ly winds), but late afternoon and evening should be entirely dry and those winds should drop off to a mere light force 3. Next week is then looking fine and settled for the most part. Winds will be light and flopping from one direction to another, as the Channel Islands won’t be under the influence of any particular low or high pressure system. This does mean that we probably won’t import any pre-heated or pre-cooled air. Rather we will just see average summer temperatures, as the Island generates its own limited supply of heat each day, and generally loses it again each night. Therefore we should probably expect daily maxima of between 20 and 23°C, and nightly minima of between 13 and 16°C.

Surf and the Water

From late Sunday through the majority of next week, winds should be light enough to allow pleasant swimming conditions all around the Island. With a well-placed but rather shallow low pressure system in the Atlantic, there should be a steady supply of 1-2 foot surf, so kids, longboarders and SUP riders should hopefully catch plenty of waves. The tides will be medium-large, with highs of between 8m and 8.5m in the mornings and evenings.

The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
