Saturday
Weather
It’s still very uncertain when it’s actually going to start raining. The skies will be cloudy from the word go, but it will be so high that most of the rain which falls from it will evaporate before reaching the ground. As such, there probably will be some rain in the morning and early afternoon, but only spits and spots. However, at some point before evening, the cloud will have thickened and lowered enough for persistent drizzly rain to set in. That filthy weather will then persist through the night, and the wind will be pretty strong by that point too… SW’ly throughout the day and the night, force 4 in the morning, force 5 in the afternoon, then force 6 through the majority of the night. Max temp around 18°C, min temp around 15°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will increase from virtually flat at dawn to about 3-4 feet by dusk. Winds will be increasingly good for windsurfers and kite-surfers on the north and west coasts. Meanwhile, swimmers will be driven further into the sheltered nooks and crannies of those coasts, or to the even more sheltered eastern Bays like Havelet and Fermain. Tides will be high at 10:15am (8.1m) and low at 4:20pm.
Sunday
Weather
This day will be a bit like the rewind of Saturday… fresh force 5 WSW’ly winds early morning, along with persistent rain and drizzle. However, by late morning, the rain should have all cleared off and the wind will have simmered down to moderate force 4. During the afternoon, the cloud will gradually break up, allowing some decent sunny spells to develop, but there will still be the outside chance of a shower. Temperatures will likely peak a degree or two higher than on Saturday, reaching 19°C in most areas and probably sneaking up to 20°C in Town, thanks to that afternoon sunshine.
Surf and the Water
The surf will decrease from about 5 feet at dawn to about 3 feet by dusk. The earlier the better for windsurfers and kite-surfers, but the later the better for swimmers, with the east coast still offering the smoothest conditions of all. Tides will be high at 10:45am (8m) and low at 4:50pm.
Monday and Tuesday
Weather
Sunshine and showers both days, although Monday will have the lion’s share of the showers and Tuesday will have the lion’s share of the sunshine. The wind story will also present a subtle difference from one day to the next though, with a force 4 W’ly on Tuesday, followed by a force 4 NW’ly on Wednesday. This means that Town will be the most sheltered and comfortable area on Monday, but on Tuesday the south cost will be just as pleasant Daily max temps 19°C, nightly min temps 14-15°C.
Surf and the Water
The tidal range will be medium-small, with highs in the late mornings and lows around dinner time. Surfers will find choppy 2-3 footers on Monday, followed by even choppier 1-2 footers on Tuesday. Swimmers will find that the east coast is nice and smooth on both days, but the south coast will be equally smooth on Tuesday.
The Rest of Next Week
Weather
Force 4 to 5 SW’ly winds will bring a cloudy but mostly dry Wednesday, followed by a showery Thursday. Then, as winds veer W’ly on Friday, it looks as though the showers will gradually be replaced by sunshine, but details like that are difficult to be sure of at this early stage. However, whatever the details, it looks pretty certain that temperatures will stay a degree or so below the late July average.
Surf and the Water
The tidal range will be small, with lows around breakfast time and highs in the early afternoons. Surfers will find cleanish waves on Wednesday, increasing from 1-2 feet at dawn to 3-4 feet by dusk. Thursday and Friday’s waves will either hold at that size or possibly pick up to a solid 5 feet. Swimmers will always find that the east coast is smoothest, but there will be some sheltered nooks along the north and west coasts at times.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday or Monday…
