Tuesday
Weather
The breeze will start off NW’ly and gradually change to W’ly, only light force 3 for the most part (occasionally nudging up to moderate force 4) but generally bringing inherently cool air to the Islands. Therefore, despite lots of sunshine, temperatures will only reach 18-19°C in most parts of the Island, but Town should climb to 20°C quite easily.
Surf and the Water
The surf will only be 1 foot and choppy, but fear not because the weather chart is looking very promising for the back end of the week. In the meantime, this will be a great day for swimming along the south coast. Tides will be high at 11:50am (7.4m) and low at 6pm.
Wednesday
Weather
This day is the halfway house between super-sunny Tuesday and super-soggy Thursday. In other words, Wednesday will be mostly dry but the skies will be cloudy (only the odd crack here and there to let a momentary slither of sunshine slip through). Light force 3 SW’ly breezes will bring inherently milder air than on Tuesday but, with cloudy skies, the max temperature will end up roughly the same… 18-20°C around the Island (with Town topping the leader board as usual).
Surf and the Water
The surf will only be 1 foot and choppy, but swimming conditions will be good on the north and east coasts, as well as in the sheltered corners of some west-coast bays. High tide will be at 12:40pm (7.2m). Low water will be at 6:30am and 7pm.
Thursday
Weather
So this is due to be the wettest day of this week, because a weather front is due to park itself over the Channel Islands in the early hours of the morning, then just wiggle around a bit but never really go away until sometime in the middle of the night or perhaps even on Friday morning. This means the rain will be on and off (but definitely be more on than off). Some of the rain will be heavy but most of it will be drizzly, falling from very low cloud, which means that there is also likely to be some annoying foggy episodes around the airport. Wind-wise, we are looking at a fresh force 5 SW’ly, taking the temperature to a daytime max of 18-20°C, then down to an overnight min of 15-17°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will only be about 4 feet and fairly clean. Windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions will be pretty good too, especially in the morning. Swimming conditions will be best on the north and east coasts, especially around lunchtime. High tide will be at 1:40pm (7.1m). Low water will be at 7:30am and 8pm.
Friday and The Weekend
Weather
Thursday night’s rain might just linger into Friday morning but it’s more likely to clear off around dawn, leaving us with three days of WSW’ly breezes (moderate force 4 to fresh force 5), partly cloudy/partly sunny skies and the possibility of catching one or two brief light showers. Temperatures will be unremarkable (I’m sure you’ve got used to that by now) but they won’t be cold… daytime maxima of 19-21°C (always warmest in Town) and nightly minima of 14-16°C.
Surf and the Water
The North Atlantic Charts are peppered with weather systems that look more typical of Autumn or Winter. As such, although the precise wave heights are uncertain, there will no doubt be lots and lots of action for surfers… my early estimates would be 4-6 feet for the majority of this time, a little bit choppy but still lots and lots of fun. Tides will be low in the mornings and hight in the afternoons (increasing from 7.1m to 7.9m).
The next forecast update will be on Thursday morning…
