Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 27 July 2023

Thursday

Weather

Rain, drizzle, mist and fog patches. This filthy weather will be with us for the day, but the bulk of the rain will be in the morning and the majority of the fog will be in the afternoon. Winds will come from the southwest… force 5-6 around dawn, gradually easing to force 3-4 by dusk. Temperatures will barely move between daytime and night time, with 18°C for the afternoon max, and 16°C for the overnight min.

Surf and the Water

The surf will only be about 4-5 feet and fairly clean. Windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions will be pretty good too, especially in the morning. Swimming conditions will be best on the north and east coasts, especially around lunchtime. High tide will be at 1:40pm (7.1m). Low water will be at 7:30am and 8pm.

Friday

Weather

It probably won’t be until late morning that say goodbye to the mist, hill-fog and occasional drizzle. After that, skies will be bright and we should even have the odd moment of proper sunshine. All feeling quite pleasant, because the wind will only be a light force 3 WSW’ly for the majority of the time. Most places will peak between 19 and 20°C, but Town should go a step further to peak around 21°C.

Surf and the Water

The surf will only be 2-4 feet and still quite clean. No good for windsurfing or kite-surfing on this day though. Swimming conditions will be pretty good on all coasts when winds are lightest, but generally the east coast will always be best. Low tide will be at 8:45am. High tide will be at 3pm (7.2m).

The Weekend

Weather

The odd shower is likely in the mornings and during the overnight periods, perhaps heavy on Saturday morning, otherwise light. The afternoons should be dry with plenty of sunshine though, especially Saturday afternoon. That sunshine will not feel especially warm though, unless you head to the most sheltered areas like Town or Fermain. This is because the wind will be a bit perky… fresh force 5 WSW on Saturday, veering to a due W’ly on Sunday. Temperatures much like many recent days… with daily maxima of 19-20°C in most areas but 20°C in Town

Surf and the Water

The surf will be choppy on both days, but there should be plenty of fun for shortboarders, with sloppy 3-4 foot waves on Saturday and stronger 4-5 foot waves on Sunday. Tides will be low in the mornings and high in the afternoons (increasing from 7.1m to 7.9m).

Next Week

Weather

Another week of unsettled weather I’m afraid, with W’ly or SW’ly winds generally blowing around fresh force 5, sometimes moderating to force 4, sometimes strengthening to force 6. Monday and Wednesday currently look set to be the wettest days, because rainfall is likely to be heaviest and most prolonged on those days. The other days should be mostly (but not entirely) sunny and dry. Daily max temps will remain around 20°C, nightly minima around 16°C.

Surf and the Water

The North Atlantic forecast charts show a succession of low-pressure systems that look more typical of Autumn or Winter. As such, although the precise wave heights are uncertain, there will no doubt be lots and lots of action for surfers… my early estimates would be 4-6 feet for the majority of this time, sometimes clean but mostly choppy. Tides will be high in the early mornings and in the evenings (increasing from 8m early Monday to 10m late Friday). Low tides will be in the early afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Saturday…
