Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 07 August 2023

Monday

Weather

A mixed bag of cloud and sunshine, probably not quite as much blue sky as on Sunday, but with gentler winds (generally force 3 W’ly) it should feel slightly more comfortable. Max temps around 19°C in most areas but probably 20°C in Town. Overnight min temps will be around 14°C.

Surf and the Water

Sloppy 1-2 foot surf, but it should be rideable at times, especially if you’re a youngster with a volumous board. Swimming conditions will be nice all around the Island, due to the lightness of the wind. Seeking shelter will not be as important as on previous days, however there’s no denying that the smoothest water will be along the east coast. High water will be about 8.5m at 11:30am and low water will be around 6pm.

Tuesday

Weather

A much cloudier and windier day (force 4 SW’ly, increasing fresh force 5 for time in the afternoon and evening) but this wind will be drawing warmer air over the Channel, meaning that temperatures will climb higher than recent days… peaking around 22°C and feeling pleasant in the most sheltered parts, such as around Pleinmont and Richmond on the west coast, and all along the east coast. Weather-wise, we should stay dry until late afternoon or early evening, and even then we are only looking at a little mist and drizzle. Overnight temperatures holding around 16°C and probably feeling quite muggy.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be around 1-2 feet at best, but the windsurfing/kite-surfing conditions will become pretty great. Swimmers will definitely want to seek a little shelter… this will be easiest to find along the east coast, but the west and north coasts will also have some cosy nooks in the top half of the tide. High water will be 8m around midday. Low tides will be around breakfast time and dinner time.

Wednesday and Thursday

Weather

After a misty murky start to Wednesday, we should be in for a couple of warm days, with increasingly sunny skies and maxima of around 21°C and 23°C respectively. Wind-wise, Wednesday's light and variable winds will feel really comfortable in all parts of the Island, then Thursday's force 3-4 SE’ly will feel rather warm as it brings a little French influence. Also drifting over from France (mainly on Thursday night) will be the odd thundery shower. As always, we will certainly know about it if they hit us, but the chances of them hitting us are pretty slim. The greater likelihood is that they will drift by on the horizon, only dropping a few spits and spots over the actual Island.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be almost flat, probably only the odd 1-foot ripple for youngsters. Fabulous swimming conditions all around the Island on Wednesday, then particularly on the west and north costs on Thursday. Low tides will be around breakfast time and in the evenings, High tides will be in the early afternoons (7.3m and 6.9m respectively).

Friday and the Weekend

Weather

3 days of moderate SW’ly breezes, bringing a mixed bag of cloudy/sunny skies and only the odd brief shower. Temperatures will be just on the warm side of average… peaking each at roughly 20-21°C in most parts of the Island, but likely reaching 22°C or maybe 23°C in Town.

Surf and the Water

It looks like some fairly solid surf is on the cards, at least 3 feet every day, maybe getting up to 4-6 feet at times. Winds will make the west-coast waves reasonably clean, but swimmers will probably want to stick to the north and east coasts for the smoothest water. Tides will be low in the late mornings and high in the late afternoons (6.8m, 7m and 7.5m respectively).

The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening…
