Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 09 August 2023

Thursday

Weather

Just the slim chance of a shower around dawn and again towards midnight. Otherwise, we are looking at a warm and sunny day (perhaps a little cloudier in the morning and the evening). The wind will be light force 3 SE’ly for most of the time, decreasing to near-calm and variable in the evening. Max temps will be between 22°C and 24°C depending on your precise locations. Everywhere feeling much more like the summer that we have been hoping for. Overnight min temps will be a little muggy but comfortable enough… 15-16°C.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be almost flat, possibly the odd 1-foot ripple for youngsters. Fabulous swimming conditions all around the Island, but particularly on the west and north coasts. Low tides will be around 8am and 8:30pm. High tide will be about 6.9m at 2pm, a nice small tide meaning that most beaches will keep some dry sand throughout.

Friday

Weather

Another murky start is on the cards, rather like on Wednesday but this time with some showers as well as the mist/fog. However, it looks likely to brighten up a bit quicker on this occasion, leaving us with a dry and partly sunny afternoon and just a gentle force 3 SW’ly breeze. These conditions always lead to higher temperatures in St Peter Port than across the rest of the Island, so we are probably looking at 20-21°C for the general max temp, but 22°C in Town. Then rather muggy overnight, with a min temp of 16°C but very little happening with respect to wind or weather.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be possibly increase to 2-3 feet by dusk, but we may find that the fun is reserved for the weekend. Swimming conditions will be good in most places but the east and north coasts will certainly be smoothest. Low tide will be at 9:20am. High tide 3:40pm (roughly 6.8m).

The Weekend

Weather

Low pressure over Scotland, will bring wet and windy weather to much of the UK. However, if it maintains its expected position then the Channel Islands should be far enough away from it that the WSW’ly winds never get any stronger than moderate force 4, and the showers are very isolated, possibly missing the Islands altogether. Skies will be a rather cloudy at times, nice and clear at others, making it all feel rather average but not unpleasant. Max temps should be around 20-21°C for most parts areas, but 21-22°C in Town.

Surf and the Water

Solid surf… 6 feet on Saturday, then 4-5 feet on Sunday. Both days will have cross-onshore breezes but they will be lightest during the afternoons, which coincides nicely with the top half of the rising tides and therefore the most promising surf sessions. Those tidal highs will be 7m at 4:50pm on Saturday and 7.5m at 5:50pm on Sunday. Low tides will be in the late mornings.

Next Week

Weather

Winds will be very light and comfortable… mostly N’ly in the first half of the week and then E’ly in the second, meaning that the air which wafts over us will be inherently warmer each day, so the partial sunshine should take us firmly into the mid-twenties, maybe even the high twenties by Friday, but that’s far too far away to forecast with any confidence, so we shall just have to keep an eye on forecast developments and make sure not to confuse our hopes with our expectations. Weather-wise, it’s currently looking dry by day but there might be the odd shower to water our gardens by night.

Surf and the Water

Medium-large tidal movements, with lows around lunchtime and with highs around breakfast time and in the evenings. As for the surf, Monday will see some weak leftovers from the weekend swell, then conditions are looking pretty close to flat through the rest of the week, although there is the chance of another proper swell developing through Friday. Light winds should be the recipe for great swimming/kayaking/paddle-boarding throughout the week.

The next forecast update will be on Friday …
