Sunday
Weather
The day should be partly sunny and increasingly pleasant, due to the decreasing wind (force 4 WSW’ly at first, force 2 SSW’ly later). There will only be the smallest chance of a brief light shower in the morning, but there won’t be any thorough soakings until around midnight. Daytime max temp 19-21°C, depending on your precise location. Overnight min temp roughly 15°C.
Surf and the Water
Low water will be just before midday and high water just before 6pm, quite a small one though… just 7.5m. The surf will be getting smaller (shrinking from about 5 feet to 3 feet) but it will also be getting much cleaner. As for the swimming conditions, during the morning it will be worth sticking to the east but by the end of the day all coastlines should be equally smooth.
Monday
Weather
Moderate SSW’ly winds will bring cloudy skies and occasional drizzle through the morning and early afternoon. Then, in the late afternoon, a brief period of heavier rain will mark the change to a W’ly breeze and then we should be in for a dry and mostly sunny evening. Max temperatures will be about the same as the previous day, so that’s 19-21°C, depending on your precise location. Overnight min temps should be about 15°C again.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 2-3 foot surf until the wind flips onshore in the late afternoon or evening. For swimmers it will be best along the west or north coasts until that wind-change occurs later in the day, at which point the east coast will become much smoother. Tides will be low around lunchtime and high around breakfast time and dinner time (7.5m and 8m respectively).
Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
A couple of proper gorgeous summer days. The weather will be bone-dry and the skies partly sunny on Wednesday, with the breeze just a light force 2 WNW’ly (barely noticeable), so max temps should be about a degree higher than the previous days. Then on Thursday, with the breeze veering N’ly but possibly falling even lighter (almost flat calm), we should see solid sunshine for the vast majority of the day, taking the temperature right up to 23°C in the warmest parts of the Island.
Surf and the Water
The onshore wind will be so light that any surf we get will be clean. It is looking very small though… only 1-2 feet at the best of times (usually when the tide is pushing from mid-tide to around three quarters high). For swimmers, kayakers and paddle-boarders, the water should be suitably smooth on all coasts throughout both days. Low tides will be in the early afternoons and the highs will be around breakfast time and in the evenings… increasing incrementally each time, from 8m on Tuesday morning to 8.7m on Wednesday evening.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
For the backend of the week, the wind will change to a gentle E’ly and then a moderate SE’ly. This will really start to pull in some warm continental air, so although the skies won’t be quite as sunny as on Wednesday, we will probably see the temperature climb to daily maxima of around 25°C. For Thursday this forecast is pretty confident, but for Friday it’s a little less certain, because thundery showers will develop over France and wander in our direction. Whether they will hit us, what time of day that would be and whether they would be heavy, all put big question marks over Friday, so at the moment, it looks as though it could be hotter than Thursday but it could also be a couple of degrees cooler.
Surf and the Water
The 1 foot surf will be super clean, and there’s a slim chance that it might just jump up to 3 or 4 feet in the latter part of Friday. For swimmers, the west coast will generally be best but the north and south coast might be similarly smooth at times. Low tides will be in the early afternoons and the highs will be around breakfast time and towards dusk… increasing incrementally each time, from 8.5m on Thursday morning to 8.9m on Friday evening.
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday morning…
