Guernsey Weather Fox

Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 15 August 2023

Wednesday and Thursday

Weather

Mostly sunny skies, but wispy high cloud turning it a little milky during the afternoons and pretty colourful during the evenings. The wind will have the greatest effect on the temperature. On Wednesday, there will be barely any wind at all... just variable light force 1-2, so the 22°C max should feel gorgeous. On Thursday, the breeze will be a bit stronger… a moderate force 3-4 E’ly, but all that’s going to do is bring even warmer French air to the islands so we should climb as high as 24 or 25°C on that day.

Surf and the Water

Clean 1-2 foot waves on Wednesday, decreasing to almost flat on Thursday. The swimming conditions will be fabulous all around the Island on Wednesday, but the easterly wind will mean that west is best on Thursday. Tides will be low in the early afternoons and the high tides will be as follows… 8.2m at 7:40am then 8.6m at 7:50pm on Wednesday, 8.5m at 8:15am then 8.8m at 8:25pm on Thursday.

Friday

Weather

The most dead-cert wet day of the week, with intermittent patchy rain through first half of the day and then some slightly heavier bursts during the afternoon and evening. All the while, the SSE’ly wind will be picking up from a barely noticeable force 2 early morning to a moderate force 4 by dusk. Skies might be reasonably bright at times, but the cloud will often be very thick, so the temperature will struggle to exceed 22°C by day. Night time temperatures will be rather uncomfortable and sticky though, probably falling no lower than 17°C.

surf and the Water

Super-clean 2-3 foot surf until the wind flips onshore in the late afternoon or evening. For swimmers it will be best along the west or north coasts until that wind-change occurs later in the day, at which point the east coast will become much smoother. Tides will be low around lunchtime and high around breakfast time and dinner time (7.5m and 8m respectively).

The Weekend

Weather

Oh yes this is more like the summer we’ve been pining for, solid sunshine both days, just a light force 3 SSW’ly wind on Saturday and a similarly gentle SSE’ly on Sunday. Max temps should be about 23°C on Saturday and then 24°C on Sunday. Everywhere will feel lovely, but the west and north coasts should really be the cream of the crop.

Surf and the Water

Fantastic conditions for swimmers, kayakers and SUPers. As for the surfers, it will depend on the precise position of a mid-Atlantic low, but current projections suggest we could see a sold pulse of 4-6 foot swell on Saturday, followed by super-fun 2-3 foot waves on Sunday. High tides will be roughly 8.5m in the early to mid mornings. Low tides will be in the mid to late afternoons.

Next Week

Weather

Dry and mostly sunny, with moderate SE’ly breezes at the start of the week, veering to a SW’ly direction by the end. This means that the first half of the week should see daily maxima in the mid to high twenties, then the second half of the week should see daily maxima in the low to mid twenties, making it probably the finest week of the school holidays so far.

Surf and the Water

Surfers should be blessed with clean 2 foot waves for at least the first day or two, but it looks very uncertain in the latter part of the week… could be smaller, could be bigger. Tidal movements will be medium in size, with highs in the late mornings to begin with, and then through lunchtime in the latter part of the week. Swimmers will tend to find the smoothest waters on the north and west coasts.

The next forecast update will be on Friday morning…
