Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 02 September 2023

The Weekend

Weather

Sunny skies and light to moderate NE’ly breezes, should all resulting in top temperatures of 21-22°C on Saturday and then 23°C on Sunday. Whilst winds are light, then all areas should feel lovely and comfortable, but during the more breezy moments (mainly Sunday afternoon) then the south coast will always feel the nicest. Don’t forget your sun protection… the UV isn’t quite so intense now that we are so far from mid-summer, but it is still reaching the top end of 5 between late morning and mid-afternoon.

Surf and the Water

Some relatively solid 3-4 foot waves, dropping off around 2 feet for a time on Saturday evening and much of Sunday. Cross-shore winds will spoil these waves to some extent, so be sure to seize the moments when winds are lightest (mainly through Saturday). Swimmers will find the smoothest water along the south coast, but be careful not to get cut off by the fast moving tides, and beware of stronger currents than normal. Highs will all be close to the 10m mark, shortly after 9am and 9pm on Saturday, then shortly before 10am and 10pm on Sunday.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

Winds will veer to a due E’ly direction, which will allow warmer air to push in from France. Skies will be super-sunny throughout Monday, but the wind will increase to fresh force 5 at times, so this will take the edge off the heat. On Tuesday however, those winds should gradually fall fairly light so, with similar amounts of sunshine, that day should feel like the balmy height of summer. Max temps 23-24°C and 25-26°C respectively.

Surf and the Water

A strong swell from the distant ex hurricane Franklin. Wave heights will probably remain around 4 feet but there might be some bigger sets and there will certainly be a lot of power and push, so beginners should be aware of this. Experts however, will probably find some very special moments here and there. Tides will be shrinking but still on the large side. High water will be in the late mornings… 9.4m and 8.7m respectively, low water will be in the late afternoons.

Wednesday to Friday

Weather

Apart from cloudier skies and the slight chance of a wandering French thunderstorm, we are probably looking at three more warm, balmy, ‘Indian Summer’ days. Gentle E’ly breezes maintaining the influence of continental Europe. Max temps ranging between 23 and 26°C, just depending on how thick and extensive the cloud is during warmest times of day.

Surf and the Water

Tidal movements will become small, with highs around midday… shrinking from 8m on Wednesday to 6.6m on Friday. This will be great news for both swimmers and beginner surfers, because it means that currents will become weaker and conditions generally safer. The surf will remain gorgeously clean… a solid 3-4 feet on Wednesday, gradually shrinking to a rather weak 1-2 feet by Friday.

The next forecast update will be on Monday evening…
