Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 07 September 2023

Friday

Weather

The morning will be rather hazy and cloudy at times, much like Thursday was. However, the afternoon should be increasingly sunny, taking us to a top temperature of between 26°C and 28°C, depending on your precise location. The breeze will be a very gentle NNE’ly, barely noticeable at just force 1-2 through the majority of the day, perhaps picking up to force 3 in the evening but that certainly won’t be strong enough to spoil your beach parties and your barbecues.

Surf and the Water

Clean 1 foot surf on the west coast, so generally good for kids or for adults with enormous boards. Swimming conditions will be great all around the Island, especially because the tidal movements will be so small and the currents therefore very weak. High water will be just 6.6m at lunchtime. Low water will be around sunset.

Saturday

Weather

Bright sunshine for much of the day, but some cloudy skies are likely early morning and then again in the evening. After dusk we could be in for a thundery shower or two, which might just bless us with a slightly cooler night than we’ve had all week. Daytime temperatures will be on the hot side though, thanks to the import of some extra French heat by the gentle E’ly breeze. Max temps of between 27°C and 29°C depending on your precise location (the southwest of the Island probably being the hottest area).

Surf and the Water

Slightly stronger surf than on Friday… maybe a few 2 foot sets at times. Once again, swimming conditions will be fabulous all around the Island and the tidal movements will be tiny. Low water will be at breakfast time and high water will be around 3pm (just 6.4m).

Sunday

Weather

The Island will still be swamped in rather hot air, but the breeze will switch to a gentle SW’ly which will introduce quite a lot more cloud. By the end of the day, some of this could be low enough to bring a little mist or hill fog, and the cloud could be thick enough to squeeze out a showers too. That will prevent the temperature from climbing to the dizzy heights of Saturday, but we should still see maxima of 25- 27°C (Town probably being the hottest area).

Surf and the Water

Surfing and swimming conditions will be virtually the same as on Saturday. Just the tides will be different… this time with low water at 10:30am and high water at 4:40pm (6.8m)

Next Week

Weather

Force 2-3 W’ly breezes will likely bring some mist and hill fog on Monday morning, but this should clear up in the latter part of the day, before returning on Monday night. Tuesday through to Friday will likely have a slightly cooler NW’ly flow (generally force 2-3 but occasionally slipping up to moderate force 4), bringing sunshine and showers (much more emphasis towards the sunshine than the showers). Temperatures will be considerably down on the current week but they will still be pleasantly warm for the most part. Daily max temps should vary between 20°C on the coolest days and 23°C on the warmest (Town always taking the trophy). Overnight min temps won’t be quite as low as you might be wishing for, but they will still be a welcome relief after this current week, generally varying between 14 and 16°C.

Surf and the Water

The surf will likely fall flat at times, but we should have sloppy 1-2 foot waves through most of the week. Just enough to maintain the enthusiasm our keenest young learners. Swimming conditions will generally be best on the east and south coasts. Tidal movements will become quite large… lows will be around lunchtime and highs will be around breakfast time and dinner time (increasing from 7m at the start of Monday to 9m by the end of Friday).

The next forecast update will be on Sunday…
