Monday
Weather
A very different feeling day. Although that Sunday thunder probably didn’t feel particularly settled, it was at least warm air and light winds. Monday’s showers will be fewer and briefer, but they really won’t feel very nice, due to the arrival of much cooler over the Islands and the strength of the W’ly wind (force 5, perhaps occasionally force 6). Autumn will most definitely be in the air, with most parts of the island hovering around 17-18°C all day, whilst Town is the only place that manages to creep up to 19°C.
Surf and the Water
Surf-wise, we are only looking at an increasingly choppy sea, which could become lumpy enough to be ridden through lunchtime and the afternoon. Great windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions all day long though. As for the swimmers… definitely best to go east (especially around Fermain). High tide will be 8.8m around 9:15 am, low tide will be around 3:30pm.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
Both days, slightly milder than Monday… probably peaking at 19-20°C on Tuesday and the 20-21°C on Wednesday. The wind will be just as perky though, force 5-6 for the majority of the time, but possibly as strong as force 7 for a brief spell… WSW’ly at the start of Tuesday, backing to a SSW’ly direction by the start of Wednesday. Weather-wise, Tuesday doesn’t look too bad, although skies will be mostly cloudy, there should be a few spells of sunshine slipping through the cracks and it looks as though we might escape without any showers. Wednesday, will be pretty similar in the morning but then a spell of rather heavy rain will develop in the afternoon and probably linger well into the evening.
Surf and the Water
A couple more excellent days for wind-junkies. As for surfers, well they should be in for a treat too, with Tuesday serving up some choppy sloppy 3 foot lumps, then Wednesday becoming significantly cleaner and significantly larger… probably about 4 feet at dawn, increasing to 6 feet by dusk. High tides will be a little before and after 10am (8.6m and 8.3m respectively). Low tide will be in the late afternoons.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
After Wednesday’s little temperature minor spike, we will see another plummet at the back end of the week, this time only scraping an 18°C max on Thursday and a 17°C max on Friday, and the cherry on the cake will probably be the Friday night minimum temperature, which could be the first single-digit temperature that we’ve seen for a very long time. As for the wind and weather, we are probably looking at a mix of sunshine and brief heavy showers on both days. Thursday’s showers will probably be evenly spread throughout the day, but Fridays are likely to be weighted towards the morning, leaving the afternoon to become fabulously sunny (even if it is on the cool side). Wind-wise, it’s looking like a force 5-6 WNW’ly throughout.
Surf and the Water
Both days a bit choppy for surfers, compared to Wednesday, but still rideable and potentially quite fun… 4-5 feet on Thursday, then 6-8 feet on Friday. Great windsurfing conditions out west again. Swimmers, however, should definitely stick to the most shetered eastern nooks. High tides will be a little before and after 11am (7.9m and 7.5m respectively). Low tide will be around dinner time.
The Weekend
Weather
With such changeable weather, thanks to the presence of a number of ex hurricanes/tropical-storms in the Atlantic, it is fair to say that confidence is low in the details of this forecast. However, the current expectation is that we will have a relatively fine weekend, with a ridge of high pressure bringing force 3-4 W’ly breezes and sunny skies through the majority of Saturday. Then on Sunday, as a low pressure system encroaches from the west, a strengthening S’ly wind will bring increasingly cloudy skies but also a considerable rise in temperatures (associated rainfall holding off until dusk or perhaps even the following day). Likely max temps… 18-19°C on Saturday, then 20-21°C on Sunday.
Surf and the Water
It looks like a couple of great days for surfers again… light onshore winds making the 4-5 foot waves reasonably clean on Saturday, then a stiff offshore breeze making the 6-8 foot waves (possibly bigger) really really clean on Sunday. Tides will be low around dawn and dusk, and the will be high around lunchtime, not very big, just 7m and 6.8m respectively.
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening…
