Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 25 September 2023

Monday

Weather

Dry all day, but rather cloudy through the first half of the morning and then again towards evening, leaving us with beautiful sunshine through the bulk of the day. Initially force 3 W’ly winds, will reduce to force 2 SW’ly by lunchtime and then be variable force 1 through the majority of the afternoon. This means that the max temps (19-21°C) should feel really lovely for late September.

Surf and the Water

Sunday’s incredible hurricane swell will carry on through Monday, with conditions becoming increasingly clean as the wind reduces to almost flat calm… the morning’s waves generally 5-6 feet, followed by 4 foot waves in the afternoon. Swimming conditions will be beautifully smooth all around the Island, providing you avoid those west-coast bays that are most exposed to the surf. Low tide will be around 9:45am, then high tide will be around 4pm (7.2m).

Tuesday

Weather

Some drizzly showers are likely around dawn, maybe just through the morning rush hour too, but the rest of the morning should see increasing amount of sunshine, before the afternoon then sees a gradual return to cloudier skies. Whilst all this is happening, the background wind story will be force 3-4 S’ly at dawn, slowly and steadily veering to a W’ly direction by dusk. Max temps 20-21°C in most areas but possibly 22°C in Town.

Surf and the Water

Although, probably no longer strictly describable as an hurricane swell, the waves will crank back up to the 5-6 foot range. West-coast conditions will be clean enough, especially during the morning, due to the wind direction, but the wind strength will have perked up a bit, so the water will have lost its silky texture. As such, swimmers ought to stick to the more sheltered areas… north coast, east coast and the southern corners of the west-coast bays. Low tide will be around 9:45am, then high tide will be around 4pm (7.2m).

Wednesday and Thursday

Weather

These are the two windiest and perhaps wettest days of the week. It all depends on the precise position of a very deep area of low pressure to the northwest of the British Isles. It currently looks as though we will only see 1-3mm each day, from smattering of brief showers. However, if that low pressure system nudges a little southeastward of its currently expected position, then we could see some more prolonged soakings, taking the daily rainfall totals up to 5-10mm. Winds will be force 5-6 SSE’ly through most of Wednesday, then force 4-5 SSW’ly through most of Thursday. Max temps 19-20°C on Wednesday, then 18-19°C on Thursday.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be lovely and clean for the majority of these two days... only becoming messy for the last couple of hours of Wednesday and the first couple of hours of Thursday. Wave heights generally around 4 feet through Wednesday and 6 feet through Thursday. Wind surfing conditions should be great along the north and west coasts too. Swimmers should definitely stick to the most sheltered nooks, especially on Wednesday. High tides will be around dawn and dusk (increasing from 8.3m on the first high of Wednesday to 9.6m on the second high of Thursday). Low tides will be around midday.

Friday and The Weekend

Weather

High pressure and all its associated dry and settled weather, will spread in from the west through Friday, sit roughly overhead through Saturday, then shuffle away eastwards through Sunday. Across this period, winds will change from roughly a force 3 W’ly through most of Friday, variable force 1-2 through most of Saturday, then force 3 SSW’ly through most of Sunday. Daily max temps generally around 19-21°C, which is still slightly above the late September average.

Surf and the Water

Very large tidal movements, with highs around breakfast time and shortly after dusk (all very close to 10m) and lows in the early afternoons. The surf will be a little choppy first thing Friday, but increasingly clean through the rest of this period… probably 4-5 feet through Friday, then 2-3 feet through Saturday and Sunday.

The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening…
