Monday
Weather
Some brightness is possible early morning and late afternoon, but the majority of the day will be cloudy, and that cloud will be so low that parts of the Island will be shrouded in mist or fog at times. That said, it certainly won’t be cold… we should still get up to 21°C during those brighter moments in the late afternoon. The other bit of weather that might just affect us, is a line of showers that will sweep across the Channel in the afternoon. It’s most likely that they will pass on by to the north of the Island, but it’s worth being aware that a brief downpour is possible. As for the wind story… lovely and light during the daytime (force 2-3 ESE’ly) but then getting quite strong and gusty overnight (force 4-5 WNW’ly).
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 1-2 foot surf on the west coast and lovely smooth water for swimmers all around the Island. High tides will be 9:15am and 9:30pm (9.8m and 9.7m respectively), low tide will be around 3:30pm.
Tuesday
Weather
Much cooler air over the Island, thanks to the force 4-5 WNW’ly wind. However, apart from the slight chance of an early morning shower or two, we should be in for bright sunshine through the majority of the day. Max temperature… just 17°C in most places, but probably 18°C in sheltered areas like Town and Fermain.
Surf and the Water
Very messy 3-4 foot surf on the west coast, but these conditions will be great for windsurfing and kite-surfing. Swimmers should still manage to find some smooth water, by heading to the east coast (especially Fermain). High tides will be 9:45am and 10pm (9.3m and 9.1m respectively), low tide will be around 4:15pm.
Wednesday to Friday
Weather
Although the wind will fall lovely and light (force 3 W’ly on Wednesday, force 2 SW’ly on Thursday, then force 3 SSE’ly on Friday), it will take the temperature quite a while to recover from Tuesday’s blast of rather chilly air. This is due to the cloudy skies that will dominate through Wednesday and Thursday… Wednesday’s max 17-18°C, Thursday’s max 18-19°C. Friday, however, should be fine and sunny, so we should see the temperature jump right up to 20°C by the end of the school/working day… setting the tone for a rather gorgeous weekend.
Surf and the Water
Tides will be high in the late mornings (8.7m, 8m and 7.2m respectively) and low around dinner time. The moment will be over for windsurfers and kite-surfers I’m afraid, but surfers and swimmers will still have plenty to be happy about. The west-coast surf should be 1-3 feet and increasingly clean, whilst swimming conditions should be pretty smooth on all coasts.
The Weekend
Weather
Straight forward warm and sunny, with a moderate SE’ly wind brining toasty French air to the Island on Saturday. Then, on Sunday, a gentle SSW’ly will put a little cloud in the sky, but it should still be pretty balmy for early October. The max temps 22°C and 21°C respectively.
Surf and the Water
The surf should be about 3-5 feet, super-clean and pretty powerful compared to the previous days. Swimming conditions will be best along the north coast and in the more sheltered west-coast bays. High tides will be around lunchtime, low tides around breakfast time and after dusk.
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening…
