Thursday
Weather
Much like on Wednesday, there will be some soft sunshine but the sky will generally be on the cloudy side. The SW’ly breeze will be much lighter though, so it’s going to feel really calm and comfortable. Max temp 18°C in most parts of the Island, but probably 19°C in Town. Min temp overnight 12-13°C.
Surf and the Water
Clean 2-3 foot waves on the west coast and super-smooth water for swimmers all around the Island. High water will be roughly 8m just before 11am, then low water will be just after 5pm.
Friday
Weather
With the SSW’ly staying just as light as on Thursday, but the sunshine being brighter and more plentiful, we should see temperatures climb by at least a degree… meaning that most areas should peak at 19-20°C, but Town should slip on up to 21°C. Warm air should start to spread in from France during the night time too, so you should be able to launch the weekend with very comfortable conditions for beach parties and barbecues. 14-15°C should be the minimum temperature at around 10 or 11pm, then we will actually see the temperature start to rise, such that we bounce back to 16°C by dawn.
Surf and the Water
Similarly smooth swimming conditions to those of Thursday, even better surfing conditions though. This time we should see clean 3-4 footers through most of daylight hours, but it should crank up to a solid 5 feet for the last couple of hours of daylight. High tide will be roughly 7.2m at 11:30am and low tide will be around 6pm.
The Weekend
Weather
A proper stinker of an October weekend… in this case I use the word ’stinker’ in the positive sense, like the Australians, meaning hot and sweaty, the kind of thing that you would typically have to go on holiday to find. Saturday should have a light force 2-3 SE’ly breeze, wall to wall sunshine and a max temperature of 23-24°C, then Sunday should be pretty much identical except that the breeze might nudge up to moderate force 4 at times, probably (but not definitely) preventing the temperature from rising even higher. Either way, it’s potentially record breaking for this time of year, and the blissful thing is that sun-cream is not so essential any more, now that we are only just scraping a UV index of 4. Don’t forget it does get dark quite early though, so if you want to spend half the day at the beach then 3pm would be far too late to be getting started.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 3-5 foot surf on both days, and yet more beautiful swimming conditions, especially along the north coast and in the more sheltered west-coast bays. High tides will be around lunchtime, low tides around breakfast time and after dusk.
Next Week
Weather
At least another two days of hot sunny weather, followed by a likely thundery breakdown at some time on Wednesday. Thursday will probably still be warm and humid, so further thundery showers are possible then, but by Friday the air will be cooler, the SSW’ly winds quite a bit stronger, and the showers (although still rather heavy) should feel more typically Autumnal and Octobery. Daily max temps, will probably be 23-24°C Monday and Tuesday, 21-22°C Wednesday and Thursday, then 19-20°C on Friday.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean surf throughout the week, but gradually dropping off from 3-4 feet to just 1-2 feet. Swimming conditions will generally be best along the north coast and in the more sheltered west-coast nooks. Low tide will shift a little each day, moving from late morning through lunchtime. Likewise, high tides will shuffle forward from slightly before dawn/dusk to slightly after dawn/dusk.
The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
