Wednesday
Weather
Gentle S’ly breezes will bring milder ait than on Tuesday, taking us up to a top temperature of 21°C in most areas (perhaps 22°C in Vale and St Sampson), despite there being a lot of cloud in the sky. Some sunshine will manage to sneak through at times (mainly around lunchtime) and there isn’t expected to be any rain until well after dusk, so this is really a day to be taken advantage of, because things are going to be quite a lot cooler and less settled through the rest of this forecast. Starting with the overnight period into Thursday, when the wind will change to a force 4 SW’ly and we will probably receive 1-2mm of rainfall from a drizzly episode around midnight.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be 1-2 feet and clean, but very weak and sloppy… a dim shadow of its recent self. Swimming conditions will be best, either along the east or north coasts, or at the southern ends of the west-coast bays. Low water will be just before midday and high water will be at 5:40pm (7.9m).
Thursday and Friday
Weather
Thursday’s skies will be grey all day, due to the cloud being thicker and lower than on Wednesday, likely producing a few spits of rain or drizzle in the morning and early afternoon, but probably waiting until the evening rush-hour before things turn really damp and murky. Winds will be moderate force 4 WSW’ly and the temperature will be a bit of a flat line – only fluctuating between 17°C and 19°C through both the daytime and the night time. Moving on to Friday, the main difference will be the wind, blasting as strong as force 6 right from the get go. That wind will be SSW’ly through the morning, when we should stay most;y dry and partly sunny. Then we will probably be in for a brief downpour at lunchtime, as the wind veers to a WSW’ly and ushers in an after noon of sunshine and showers. Then finally, we will receive the heaviest downpour around midnight, as the wind veers all the way round to a NNW’ly direction, to set us up for a rather chilly weekend.
Surf and the Water
If there is any surf on Thursday then it won't be particularly messy. However, much like Wednesday, it doesn’t look much better than flat until Friday, when we hopefully pick up a short-lived but relatively chunky swell by the end of the day. With winds a little lighter on Thursday, swimmers will have a greater range of options, but Friday is looking much better suited to windsurfers and kite-surfers. High tides around dusk and dawn, low tides around lunchtime, increasing tide by tide from 8.1m to 8.8m.
The Weekend
Weather
There is only the smallest chance of a brief shower or two, and it actually looks quite a lot sunnier than previously expected. Furthermore, the visibility will be pretty fabulous on both days, so it will be great to get out for a decent coastal walk. Definitely not ideal for shorts and flip-flops though, with miserly max temperatures of 15-16°C on Saturday and just 14-15°C on Sunday. Furthermore the N’ly wind (moderate force 4 for the most part, but occasionally fresh force 5 on Saturday morning) will add a rather uncomfortable wind-chill factor, unless you seek out some decent shelter, such as down on the south coast cliff-paths and beaches. Get ready for some low temperatures in the might time too… min temps of 9-11°C on Saturday night, then 7-9°C on Sunday night.
Surf and the Water
Cross-shore winds will make any surf that we get rather choppy and horrible... most likely 2-3 feet on Saturday, then 1-2 feet on Sunday. Swimming conditions will generally be best along the south coast High tides shortly after dusk and dawn, low tides around lunchtime, increasing tide by tide from 8.8m to 9m.
Next Week
Weather
Monday and Tuesday will be dominated by cloudy skies and fresh E’ly winds, all making it feel rather frigid, and likely putting you in the mood for thick woolly jumpers and large mugs of soup (if you’re not already there). Wednesday, will probably see a slight upturn in the temperature, due to slightly lighter SE’ly winds and the possibility of a little more sunshine. That trend will likely carry on Through Thursday and Friday, but on the flip-side, it does look as though the likelihood of showers will also increase through those days. I can’t be too specific in this longer range portion of the forecast, but we are probably looking at max temps in the low to mid-teens through the first half of the week, followed by max temps in the mid-high teens through the second half. Overnight temperatures either in the low double-figures or the high single-figures, depending on how cloudy the skies are, but at this stage it doesn’t look as though we are likely to see any ground-frost for a good while yet.
Surf and the Water
There’s just a chance of some small but long-period swell at some point, if the mid-Atlantic depressions are of favourable position and intensity. The likelihood of this seems fairly low at the moment, so it would be best to brace yourselves for a week of flatness. Swimming conditions will be best towards high tide, mainly in the sheltered corners of the west-coast bays. High tides will be in the mornings (shrinking from 9.1m on Monday to 8.1m on Friday). Low tides will be in the afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Saturday morning…
