Saturday
Weather
We will hang on to the strong wind and horizontal showers that no doubt gave most people a very disturbed Friday night. There will be some dry interludes but it will never become as bright or sunny as it did on Friday. The wind direction will be WSW’ly in the morning and WNW’ly in the afternoon, meaning that the east coast will really be the only place to find a properly sheltered nook. Max temp around 15°C, min temp around 12°C but the rotten wind and weather making all of it feel as though it were a few degrees lower.
Surf and the Water
After the crazy wind of Friday night, it won’t be remotely surprising to see 10 foot surf on the beaches. The wind will still be very strong and directionally-awful for the west coast though. If you’re hardcore enough to handle it then your best alternatives will be L’Ancresse in the morning or perhaps Petit Bot in the afternoon. And if you’re a daily swimmer, then Fermain will undoubtedly be the best bet for you. Tides will about 7.8m high just after 11am, then low at roughly 5:30pm.
Sunday
Weather
An easing of the wind and a massive reduction in the frequency/intensity of showers. The sun should make a few welcome appearances too, making it feel like a very similar day to Friday (if you remember). The detail of those winds… starting the day with a force 5 WSW’ly and then finishing with a force 3 SSW’ly. The temperature peaking at a very comfortable 17°C, then falling to an overnight min of about 11°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be much cleaner and more manageable along the west coast, especially during the afternoon… dropping from around 6 feet in the morning to 3-4 feet by late afternoon. Swimmers will want to stick to the east coast during the morning, but could spread comfortably to the north or west coasts during the latter part of the day. High tide will be about 7.1m just after midday. Low tides will be shortly before dawn and after dusk.
Monday and Tuesday
Weather
Still showery at times, some of them heavy, but with the wind taking a bit of a breather (force 3-4, perhaps occasionally 5), these two days should hopefully stand out as a bit of an oasis. Monday should have ESE’ly breezes, making the east coast feel a little rougher than of late but the west coast much more sheltered. Tuesday’s wind will revert to the familiar SW’ly direction but it should be light enough to make the sunny spells feel very pleasant. Temperatures should peak around 16-17°C during the daytime, then only fall to around 12-13°C during the night-time.
Surf and the Water
The surf should be nice and clean through the majority of these two days, rather small but still do-able… roughly 2 feet on Monday, then 3-4 feet on Tuesday. Swimmers will find options on all coasts at one time or another... shooting for high tide will generally be best; those highs will be around mid-afternoon (7.2m and 7.6m respectively). Low tides will be around breakfast time.
The Rest of Next Week
Weather
A standard Autumnal weather pattern, with low pressure systems following the traditional track across northwest Britain and on towards Norway, meaning that we maintain a mild but occasionally wet SW’ly flow (mostly fresh force 5, but occasionally slipping down to moderate force 4 or stepping up to strong force 6). Temperatures should typically peak around 16°C during the daytime, then only fall to around 13-14°C during the night-time.
Surf and the Water
Bigger surf at this end of the week generally 4-6 feet and reasonably clean under the cross-shore wind. Great conditions for windsurfers and kite-surfers. Not the best for swimmers though, unless heading to such commonly sheltered east-coast nooks like Fermain. Tidal movements will become much larger as we approach the full moon… with high water nudging day-by-day from late afternoon towards dusk… increasing from roughly 8.3m to 9.5m in depth.
The next forecast update will be on Monday morning…
