Monday
Weather
A morning with lots of high cloud, but plenty of hazy sunshine lipping through. Then a generally cloudy afternoon, but probably staying dry until around 6pm. After that, we are in for a rather wet night. Never especially windy though… moderate force 4 SE’ly through the majority of the day, veering WSW’ly overnight, maybe just slipping up to fresh force 5 from time to time. Max temp 15-16°C, min temp 11-12°C.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 1-2 foot surf, just the slim chance of the odd 3-footer slipping through at times. Swimmers will find the best conditions along the west and north coasts. Low tide will be at 7:40am and high tide (7.1m) will be at 2pm.
Tuesday
Weather
Occasional showers in the morning (with a force 4-5 WSW’ly wind), then dry for most of the afternoon (with a force 3-4 SSW’ly wind). The night-time will be the wettest time, probably producing 10-15mm of rainfall from some proper heavy downpours. Once again, the temperature won’t be too bad though… peaking at roughly 16°C by day, then only falling to 12 or 13°C overnight.
Surf and the Water
The surf will gradually shrink from 5 feet to 3 feet, but it will become increasingly clean as it does so. Swimmers will find the best conditions along north and east coasts in the morning, then on the west coast in the afternoon. Low tide will be at 9:30am and high tide (7.6m) will be at 3:40pm.
Wednesday to Friday
Weather
Three days with lots of rain, each probably 10+mm. Wednesday will probably be a day of two halves… dry morning and wet afternoon, then Thursday and Friday will probably have an even spread of sunshine and showers throughout. Wind-wise, Wednesday will be the calmest day, with a moderate force 4 W’ly for the most part. Then, Thursday and Friday’s winds will be strong force 6 SW’ly, with gusts of 45-50mph possible near showers. Max temps will still be up there at 15-16°C, but it will obviously be important to find shelter if you want to feel comfortable (Town and Fermain being the best places to do this).
Surf and the Water
Some great windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions. As for the waves, the quality will be a bit up and down, but there will be a steady trend in the size… 5 feet and rather sloppy, gradually becoming 10 feet and powerful. Swimmers should generally stick to sheltered east-coast nooks like Fermain. Tidal movements will get much bigger as we approach the full moon… with high water nudging day-by-day from late afternoon towards dusk… increasing from roughly 8.3m to 9.5m in depth.
The Weekend
Weather
Not looking like the dreamiest weekend of weather I’m afraid. Saturday will be much the same as Thursday and Friday, in terms of wind showers and temperature. However, although it’s too far away to forecast with confidence, Sunday looks most likely to be dry for the most part, whilst the wind stays really strong but moves around to a S’ly direction. Temperatures still managing to peak around 15-16°, but obviously not feeling too special whilst the winds are so strong.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be about 8 feet and semi-clean on Saturday, then about 4 feet and very clean on Sunday. Swimmers should stick to higher end of the tide on the north or east coasts (well away from the west coast wave action). High tides will be shortly before dawn and after dusk (generally around 9.9m, so the west coast roads could get rather messy). Low tides will be at lunchtime.
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday…
