Monday
Weather
Winds will be a little lighter than the last couple of days… W’ly moderate force 4 to fresh force 5. However. there won’t be any alteration to the alternating pattern of sunny spells and heavy showers. A bit of hail and thunder is not out of the question with these showers, but they’re far more likely to just give brief bursts of rain. Town and Fermain will therefore be the most sheltered and comfortable areas. Max temperature around 13°C, min temp around 9°C.
Surf and the Water
Choppy 6-8 foot surf along the west-coast. Marginally cleaner 2-4 foot waves possible on the north and south coasts. Good windsurfing conditions on the north and west coasts. Reasonable swimming conditions over at Fermain. High tide will be about 6.7m soon after midday. Low tide will be at roughly 6am and 7pm.
Tuesday
Weather
The showers will probably (but not definitely) be a bit fewer and lighter than on Monday, but the force 4-5 W’ly breeze will be just the same, along with the max temperature of roughly 13°C. Overnight however, skies will become cloudy and winds will strengthen (eventually becoming force 6 SSW’ly), meaning that it won’t be such a chilly one… bottoming out at about 11-12°C on this occasion.
Surf and the Water
Choppy 5-7 foot surf along the west-coast. Marginally cleaner 1-3 foot waves possible on the north and south coasts. Once again, we will have good windsurfing conditions on the north and west coasts, and reasonable swimming conditions over at Fermain. Low tide will be around 8am and high tide will be about 6.9m just after 2pm.
Wednesday and Thursday
Weather
Probably the wettest half of the week… persistent drizzly rain on Wednesday, at least until mid-afternoon anyway, then frequent showers on Thursday and Friday, heaviest and most prolonged through Thursday night and Friday morning. It will probably be the windiest half of the week as well, with a force 7 SSW’ly wind on Wednesday morning, decreasing and veering to a force 5 W’ly by Wednesday evening, then increasing to a gusty force 6 through Thursday and Friday. Sorry if it’s rather boring, but it will be a full house of 13°C max temps... generally feeling chillier than that though, except in the most sheltered areas like Town and Fermain.
Surf and the Water
Clean 3-4 foot surf on Wednesday morning, becoming choppy and picking up to 5-6 feet by evening, then staying like that or bigger through Thursday and Friday. All good windsurfing days. Not the best for swimming though, unless you seek the extreme shelter of somewhere like Fermain Bay. Tides will be low in the mid-mornings and low in the late afternoons (7.3m, 7.8m and 8.2m respectively).
The Weekend
Weather
The timing is uncertain (not sure if it will last all weekend or just for a portion of it) but a ridge of high pressure looks likely to cross the area, bringing a very welcome oasis of light winds and late Autumn sunshine. Temperatures are unlikely to climb much higher than the traditional 13°C, maybe 14 or 15°C if we are really lucky. But whatever the number, it should feel a lot more comfortable than the recent blustery days. The nights might be a bit on the cold side though, if they end up being starlit and cloudless.
Surf and the Water
Cleanish 2-4 foot surf and most likely some pleasant swimming conditions for anybody who still enjoys a regular dip. Tides will be low just before midday, and high just after dusk (8.5m and 8.8m respectively).
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday…
