Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 08 November 2023

Wednesday

Weather

Strong force 6 SSW winds will bring a full morning of rain and drizzle. Through lunchtime the wind will veer to a moderate force 4 WNW’ly and the rain will become patchy and then clear off altogether by mid-afternoon. The next rain probably coming in some heavy showers after midnight. Max daytime temperature 14°C, minimum overnight temperature 9°C.

Surf and the Water

Clean 3-4 foot surf in the morning, although the strength of that offshore wind will be very difficult to paddle against (obviously pretty epic for windsurfing though). As for the swimming, that’s going to be best of all along the east coast during the afternoon. Low water will be just after 9ma and high water will be just after 3pm (7.2m).

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Some really strong winds and heavy blustery showers. Peaking late Thursday and early Friday, when the W’ly wind will be strong force 7 with gusts of up to 50mph. There will be some sunny spells in between those nasty showers (and obviously a few pretty rainbows as well). The nicest time of all will be on afternoon Friday, when the wind will ease to a fresh force 5 NW’ly and the dryness and sunshine should become prolonged. The south and east coasts will be the best places to welcome the weekend with a lovely walk. However, the air will be rather chilly so you’ll definitely want to hang on to your jackets. Max temps 12-13°C, min temps 8-9°C.

Surf and the Water

Very choppy west coast surf (6-8 feet on Thursday, then 10-12 feet on Friday), maybe some smaller cleaner waves on the north coast on Thursday or the south coast on Friday. Both days great for expert windsurfers, not so great for swimmers though (high tide Fermain will be one of the only options). Low water will be in the late mornings, high water will be in the late afternoons (7.8m).

The Weekend

Weather

There might be some brightness on Saturday morning, but it will generally be a cloudy but dry day, with light winds making it feel much more comfortable than most days of late. Overnight into Sunday, some fairly heavy rain might arrive from the south but that’s a little uncertain at the moment. Sunday is looking more confidently wet though, with a series of weather fronts sweeping across the Islands. Winds will be gentle force 3 through most of Saturday (SW’ly backing SE’ly), then after a windier night they will be moderate force 4 on Sunday (S’ly veering SW’ly). Max temps will be 13-14°C, min temps will be 10-11°C.

Surf and the Water

Clean 3-5 foot surf both days. Better swimming conditions than recent days along the north and west coasts, so long as you pick the right moment with the weather. Low water will be shortly before midday and high water will be shortly before dawn and after dusk (increasing from roughly 8.5m to roughly 9m).

Next Week

Weather

No significant change in the weather pattern… another week of generally fresh W’ly or SW’ly winds, with bands of drizzly rain or heavier showers coming and going. Some sunny intervals of course though, taking temperatures to daily maxima of between 13°C and 15°C. Town and the Fermain area always feeling slightly warmer and more comfortable than most other parts.

Surf and the Water

Just like recent weeks, there will be a constant supply of decent-sized waves but they will fluctuate between cleanish and rather choppy from day to day. Wave heights will be mostly 6-8 feet on the west coast and about 2-3 feet on the north. Tides will be around breakfast time and low in the early afternoons (generally around 9m, give or take a little).

The next forecast update will be on Friday evening or Saturday morning…
