Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 20 April 2024

Saturday

Weather

The ENE’ly breeze (light force 3 to moderate force 4) will bring cooler and cooler air to the area. The good news is that this air will also be very dry, so the sunshine will be dazzling and the visibility will be superb. However, the max temperature will be about 8°C lower than it was only 8 days ago. Yes indeed, with a max of only 11°C it is unlikely that you will be exposing a lot of flesh. However, faces will be exposed as much as ever, so it would be a good idea to protect them from the UV, which will peak at 6 through the middle part of the day.

Surf and the Water

1-2 foot west-coast surf made even weaker by the cross-shore wind. Swimming conditions will most definitely be best along the south coast, but some corners of the west coast bays will also be pretty smooth. Low tide will be at 11:50am and high tide will be at 5:50pm (7.6m).

Sunday

Weather

There will be quite a lot of bubbly cumulus cloud compared to Saturday, so most areas will find that the sunshine comes and goes as the clouds stream along in the moderate force 4 NE’ly breeze. The cold air will be with us all day, so 11°C is as much as we could possibly hope for. Head to the sheltered south coast if you want to feel a bit more comfortable whilst you are out and about. Once again, look after your skin though, because the UV index will peak at 6 through lunchtime. Going into the evening the clouds will become a little bit taller and then they are likely to release a shower or two through the night time… none of them heavy though.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be pretty much flat (1 foot at best), but swimming conditions will once again be good along the south coast and in the northern corners of the west coast bays. High tide will be at 6am and around 6:30pm (7.8m and 8m respectively). Low tide will be at lunchtime.

Monday to Wednesday

Weather

Three days of sunshine and showers, with Monday and Tuesday looking like a fairly even mix (although Monday’s showers will be skewed towards the end of the day and Tuesday’s will be skewed towards the beginning). Wednesday, currently looks likely to be a bit drier, with showers still possible but so few and far between that they might miss us altogether. All three days will have winds from the northern quadrant (varying between NE’ly and NW’ly), meaning that the air will stay on the cold side, with max temps of 10, 11 and 11°C respectively.

Surf and the Water

Possibly just the odd pulse of longboardable ripples, but generally the surf will be flat. The south-coast swimming conditions will be the highlight, especially when the tide is quite high, around breakfast time and dinner time (increasing incrementally from 8.2m on Monday morning to 8.8m by Wednesday evening).

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Another couple of showery days. Probably heavier showers actually, and with shorter and fewer sunny interludes to separate them. Whilst on the one hand, this may sound like bad news, the flip side of the coin is that the winds will change to a moderate force 4 W’ly on Thursday and then a fresh force 5 SW’ly on Friday. This will introduce milder air, so we should see temperatures return to the teens, with daily maxima of 13°C on Thursday and then 14 or perhaps even 15°C on Friday.

Surf and the Water

With low pressure finally managing to elbow that high pressure system out of the North Atlantic, it looks as though we might finally see some 2-3 foot swell by the end of Friday. Apart from that, we are looking at fairly glassy conditions on all coasts, making the swimming conditions nice and smooth. High tides will be at breakfast time and around dusk. Low tides will be mid-afternoon.

The next forecast update will be on Monday morning…
