Tuesday
Weather
Sunny all day long, with incredible visibility. Crispy clear air all the way to the distant horizon. However, this is all due to the coldness and dryness of the Arctic airmass. As such, the temperature will only just reach 16°C. The wind will be a moderate force 4 N’ly in the morning, backing NW’ly in the afternoon, so the place to find the most consistent shelter and relative warmth will be the south coast cliffs and beaches.
Surf and the Water
Maybe some messy and mushy 2-foot surf in the morning. But once again, the main event will be sea-swimming in the sheltered south and east. Tides will be high at 10:40am (7.8m) and low at 4:50pm.
Wednesday
Weather
Almost identical to Tuesday, in terms of the wall to wall sunshine, low temperatures (15-16°C for the max) and incredibly sharp visibility. However, the wind will be a slightly lighter NW’ly on this occasion… just light force 3, so most areas will feel a little more comfortable and the difference will probably be very noticeable in Town.
Surf and the Water
Same wind direction but less of it, meaning that the swimming options will be more widespread, especially in the afternoon, when the north coast will be almost as lovely as the south. Tides will be high at 11:20am (7.4m) and low at 5:30pm.
Thursday to Friday
Weather
An upturn in temperature but a bit of a downturn in weather. Winds will come up from the south on Thursday and then from the southwest on Friday (force 4-5 both days). Thursday will peak around 17°C but skies will be increasingly cloudy and then we will receive a good dollop of rain through the late evening and through the rest of the night. Friday’s weather story will be one of sunshine and showers. As is usually the case at this time of year, the Channel Islands are a bit warmer than France during the mornings, so that extra energy will cause the showers to develop more prolifically here. However, the opposite will be true in the afternoon, so we will start to see sunny skies overhead, whilst the tall shower-clouds all cluster over the continent. Temperatures will possibly climb a little higher than on Thursday, so it currently looks as though 18°C will be the most likely peak.
Surf and the Water
Thursday’s surf will be flat at dawn, but 1-2 feet and clean by dusk. Friday’s surf will be about 3-4 feet all day, but it will be on the choppy side, especially in the afternoon. Thursday’s swimming conditions will be good on all coasts except the south, Friday’s will definitely be best along the east. High tides will be around lunchtime. Low tides will be around breakfast time and dinner time.
The Weekend
Weather
Another two days of sunshine and showers (possibly heavy)… force 5-6 SW’ly winds on Saturday, taking temperatures to a max of 17-18°C. Then, on Sunday, the wind will back S’ly or possibly even SE’ly for a time, which should lead to a max temp of 18-19°C.
Surf and the Water
Some good surf is on the cards for Saturday, perhaps the best we have seen for a while… 5-6 feet and fairly clean. Sunday will probably be similar but perhaps dropping off 3-4 feet. Swimmers will generally find that the east coast is smoothest, but there will be some cosy corners along the west and north coasts too. High tides will be in the early afternoons. Low tides will be around breakfast time and dusk.
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening…
