Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 03 July 2024

Thursday

Weather

A much sunnier day than Wednesday, and totally dry too. The one ingredient that we can’t shake off though, is the wind… moderate force 4 WNW’ly, perhaps occasionally fresh force 5. That’s going to mean that temperatures don’t rise any higher than 17°C in many parts of the Island, but we should easily reach 18°C in Town and a couple of other sheltered eastern areas.

Surf and the Water

Very choppy 4 foot surf on the west coast and clean swimming conditions on the east. Tides will be high at 6am and 6:20pm (8m and 8.3m respectively). Low tide will be at lunchtime.

Friday

Weather

A cloudy day, this time with a fresh force 5 SW’ly wind. That might not sound very pleasant, but it certainly won’t be a cold wind, because it will be carrying air up from the Bay of Biscay and taking the temperature up to about 19°C in most areas and 20°C in Town. There could be the odd spit and spot of rain or drizzle in the daytime, but it should be mostly (if not entirely) dry up until late evening time, when a band of rather heavy rain will cross the Island eastwards.

Surf and the Water

Increasingly clean 3 foot surf on the west coast and some smooth water for swimming along the east and the north coasts. Tides will be high at 6:50am and 7:10pm (8.2m and 8.5m respectively). Low tide will be at lunchtime.

The Weekend

Weather

Saturday looks pretty much like a repeat of Thursday… Sunny with only the smallest chance of a brief shower. Force 4-5 WNW’ly winds keeping the temperature on the low side, with a max of just 17°C. Sunday will then be a bit cloudier, with occasional showers likely. The wind backing to a gentler SW’ly though, meaning that the temperature should comfortably reach 18°C.

Surf and the Water

Choppy, sloppy 4 foot surf on Saturday, then slightly cleaner 3 foot surf on Sunday. Saturday’s swimming conditions will be best on the east coast. Sunday’s should be good on the north coast as well. Tides will be high at breakfast time and in the evenings (rising incrementally from 8.4m to 8.8m). Low tides will be in the early afternoons.

Next Week

Weather

Monday and Tuesday, threaten to bring some heavy (possibly thundery) showers up from France. Quite a strong SSE’ly wind on Monday, then a much gentler WSW’ly on Tuesday. Both days probably peaking around 19°C. The rest of the week should be quite a bit warmer, as high pressure brings partial sunshine and very light breezes to the area. There’s just the chance of some showers developing sometime on Thursday and Friday, but they shouldn’t have too much impact on temperature, with likely maxima of 20 or 21°C.

Surf and the Water

Small clean surf is likely Monday to Wednesday (and maybe Thursday)… probably 1-2 feet. The end of the week will most likely be flat though. Good swimming conditions every day, although when it is windy (such as on Monday) then it will definitely be necessary to find a little shelter, which will be easiest when the tide is high. Tidal movements will shrink from medium-large to medium-small. Highs will be in the mornings and lows will be in the afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Friday or Saturday…
