Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 08 July 2024

Tuesday

Weather

A similarly damp day to Monday, but this time with lower cloud, meaning that the rain will often be drizzly, with mist or fog patches on the higher ground of the Island. The wind will be a moderate force 4 S’ly until mid-afternoon, then a light force 3 SW’ly through the rest of the day. There’s a chance of some momentary brightness in the early afternoon and then a greater chance in the evening, but it really won’t have very much positive impact on the day. Max temps comfortably mild anyway… 18-19°C.

Surf and the Water

Apart from some knee-high longboard waves before breakfast, the surf is expected to be flat. However, that does at least mean lovely smooth water for swimming, all along the west and north coast. High tide will be best, to minimise the effect of the offshore breeze… 8.4m at 9:45am. Low water will be at 4pm.

Wednesday

Weather

There’s the small possibility of a shower in the morning, but we are probably looking at a dry day. Skies will be rather cloudy through the morning and early afternoon, but there will be a few cracks to let the sunshine slip through. Then, in the late afternoon and evening, those crack should gape a bit wider and bless us with something a little finer. Winds will be WSW’ly… moderate force 4 in the morning, light force 3 in the afternoon, leading to a comfortable max of 18-19°C (maybe marginally warmer in Town).

Surf and the Water

More flatness in the surf department. This time the smoothest swimming conditions will be on the east coast, but the north and west coasts will also have some sheltered silky corners. High tide will be 8.1m at 10:20am. Low tide will be at 4:30pm.

Thursday

Weather

A very uncertain day with respect to rainfall, due to the upper airflow attempting to push rain northwards from France, whilst the surface airflow gently opposes it, wafting down from the north, just light force 2-3. Either way, the sky will be cloudy and the temperature will therefore struggle to exceed 18°C. The rain will be very slow moving, so on the one hand, it might fizzle away before it gets here. However, if it does reach us, then its slowness could possibly make it the wettest day of the week.

Surf and the Water

Another flat surf day. For swimmers, all coasts will be smooth on this day, due to the lightness of the wind. However, the south coast should be the absolute cream of the crop. Tides will be 7.9m high at 10:50am and then low at 5pm.

Friday and The Weekend

Weather

Sunshine and showers is the basic summary. The timing of the showers is very uncertain at the moment, so keep an eye on forecast updates to work out when is best to be outdoors or at least to work out what to wear. Friday’s wind will be a moderate to fresh NNW’ly, so that day will feel rather cool and uncomfortable… the temperature only reaching 17-18°C for the max. Saturday’s and more especially Sunday’s wind should be a gentler WNW’ly, which should allow max temperatures to increase by at least one degree per day.

Surf and the Water

No hint of any surf, unless we get 1-2 feet of wind-induced chop on Friday. The south and east coasts will have the most consistently smooth water for swimming, but the wind should be light enough on Sunday for the other coasts to be almost as good. Tides will be high around midday and low around dinner time.

The next forecast update will be on Thursday evening…
