Friday
Weather
Some rather cool air will come down from the north, conducive to the development of some very heavy shower. They will be very sparsely scattered though, so there will be vast swathes of blue sky and sunshine in between them. This will allow temperatures to rise to about 18°C in the afternoon, and the wind will only be a light force 3 NW’ly, so it should feel pretty comfortable for most of the time. It will only be if one of those heavy showers bumps into the island that it would become less comfortable, because this would bring the potential for about 5-10mm of rainfall in as little as an hour. However, there is also a significant chance that all these showers will fall over the sea and not cause any bother for any of us.
Surf and the Water
Not really any surf to speak of, maybe some suitable ripples for young kids on foamies. Swimming conditions will be lovely though… on all coasts in the morning, then more confined to the south and east coast in the afternoon. High water will be at 11:25am (7.6m) and low water will be at 5:35pm.
The Weekend
Weather
Two lovely sunny days, with very light (barely noticeable) breezes. Saturday will have the slim chance of a shower in the morning, but cloud should dissipate pretty soon and leave us with a dry and mainly sunny remainder of the day. The max temp a little higher than Friday… peaking around 19°C. Sunday is pretty much guaranteed to be dry and mostly sunny. On this occasion the breeze will be a light force 2-3 SE’ly, bringing a little extra heat from France and therefore taking us quite easily to 21°C.
Surf and the Water
Once again, flat surf but gorgeous conditions for swimmers, and of course for kayakers and Stand-up paddlers. All coasts super-smooth and glassy. Tides will be high at lunchtime (7.3m on Saturday and just 6.9m on Sunday). Low tides will be around breakfast time and dinner time.
Monday and Tuesday
Weather
These are the days of the royal visit to Jersey (Monday) and to Guernsey (Tuesday). Showers will be possible on both days, but they currently look most likely to fall on Monday morning… a minor problem for Jersey’s events but no worries for Guernsey’s. For the majority of the time, the skies should be at least partly sunny. Winds will be light force 3 SSW’ly veering WSW’ly through Monday. Then on Tuesday they will be moderate force 4 W’ly all day, which means that St Peter Port will be particularly sheltered and comfortable. The daily maxima should be about 19°C both days (maybe 20°C in Town).
Surf and the Water
There’s a hint of some more widely rideable surf on these two days, perhaps peaking with 2-3 feet of actual swell through the second half of Monday and the first half of Tuesday (fingers crossed). Winds will make things a little choppy on the west coast (nothing serious but let’s be honest… far from perfect). Swimming conditions will be smoothest on the east coast. Low tides will be at breakfast time and towards dusk. High tides will be in the early afternoons (6.9m and 6.8m respectively).
The Rest of Next Week
Weather
High pressure looks likely to become established through Wednesday, and then hold residence for the remainder of the week. This will give us a light and variable airflow, with dryness and sunshine for the majority of the time, hiking temperatures to maxima of about 21°C, 22°C and 23°C respectively.
Surf and the Water
Low tides will be in the mid to late mornings. High tides will be in the late afternoons (7.1m, 7.4m and 7.9m respectively). Swimming conditions look gorgeous, but we will be very lucky if we get any waves for surfing.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday…
