Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 20 July 2024

Saturday

Weather

A cloudy morning but not without a little brightness and a decent amount of warmth (max temp 20-22°C). The S’ly breeze only being light force 2-3 through the morning and lunchtime. The rain won’t arrive until about 2pm and then it will be on and off until about 7 or 8pm, and there will certainly be some heavy bursts in that time, possibly thundery. Those heavier bursts will increase the wind to moderate force 4 and there could briefly be some much stronger gusts. During the evening (between about 5pm and midnight), the wind will gradually veer to a WSW’ly direction and there is likely to be quite a lot of mist and hill-fog.

Surf and the Water

Clean 1-foot surf on the west coast for longboarders and good conditions on all coasts for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding (that is until the rain sets in and the wind perks up a bit). The tide will be low at lunchtime. High tide will be 8.4m at 6:50pm.

Sunday

Weather

A dry day… not entirely sunny but with far more in the way of sunny interludes than Saturday. Winds will be quite brisk… moderate force 4 (perhaps occasionally fresh force 5) and coming from a rather cool WNW’ly direction, leading to a max temp of just 18-20°C despite the extra sunshine. Town will be the warmest spot, but there will also be some beautifully sheltered beaches, such as Petit Bot, Saints, Moulin Huet, and Fermain.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be 3-5 feet… very choppy but still one of the most surfable days that we have had for a long time. Swimming will be best at Fermain, but also good in the sheltered south coast bays. High tides will be 8.4m at 7:20am and 8.8m at 7:40pm. Low tide will be at lunchtime.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

A grey Monday, with mist patches, occasional light drizzle and probably some hill fog. All brought by a moderate force 4 SW’ly wind. Tuesday will be much sunnier though, as the breeze will be a cleaner WNW’ly and it will only be light force 3. On balance, the two days will have similar max temps (around 20°C)… Monday’s air mild and murky, Tuesday’s air cool and clear. However, I’m pretty sure that everybody will find Tuesday to be the most pleasant of the two.

Surf and the Water

The surf should be pretty clean on both days… moderate cross-shore breeze on Monday, light onshore breeze on Tuesday. Wave heights will be 2-4 feet so, once again, relatively exciting compared to the many recent flat days. Tides will be high around breakfast time and dusk (increasing incrementally from 8.7m to 9.3m). Low tides will be in the mid-afternoons.

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

High pressure looks set to reign over the second half of the week… copious sunshine (some of it hazy, some of it bright), very light winds (wafting in from a variety of directions), lifting temperatures a little higher each day… most probably peaking at 22°C Wednesday, 23°C Thursday and 24°C Friday.

Surf and the Water

The surf will probably remain rideable through Wednesday and Thursday, but reduce to about 1-2 feet. By Friday, it will most likely be flat again. Swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding conditions will be great, but make sure that you are aware of the big tidal movements and their associated currents. Highs will be 9m at 9:30am Wednesday, 9m at 10:20am Thursday and 8.8m at 11am Friday.

The next forecast update will be on Monday morning…
