Guernsey Weather Fox

Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 25 July 2024

Thursday

Weather

A murky day, I’m afraid to say… one of those moist SW’ly winds, bringing wave after wave of low cloud (misty and foggy on the high ground) along with patchy light drizzle and general greyness. As always, this kind of weather is not cold, but not exactly warm exactly warm either. With a thin layer of air locked between the cloud and the sea, the max air temp will only be a couple of degrees higher than the sea temp… making it about 19°C in most areas but 20°C.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be 2 feet and week… lovely and clean in the morning, a bit choppy later. Swimming conditions will be best along the north east coasts for most of the day, but it will also be great on the west coast in the morning. High water will be 9.1m at 10:20am and low water will be at 4:35pm.

Friday

Weather

A day of great improvement, with a partly cloudy morning giving way to a super-sunny afternoon. The winds lovely and light (force 2-3 W’ly), making it feel really comfortable… the temperature not much higher than on Thursday but feeling much more like late July… all parts of the Island reaching 19-20°C but Town probably stretching to 21°C.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be tiny but rideable for kids on surf lessons etc. Swimming will be great on all coasts, only the tiniest amount of chop on the west. Tides will be 8.9m high at 11am and then low at 5:15pm,

The Weekend

Weather

Saturday will be just like Friday… cloudier in the morning than the afternoon, but overall a lovely sunny day, with a very gentle WNW’ly breeze keeping temperatures comfortable but not especially toasty. Sunday, however, will be a couple of degrees warmer, due to a similarly gentle E’ly breeze pristine sunshine all day long. The addition of imported French heat means that our maximum for Sunday should be 22-23°C, as opposed to Saturday’s 20-21°C.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf should be 2-3 feet and clean on both days. All coasts will be beautifully smooth for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding. Tides will be high around midday (8.4m and 7.9m respectively). Low tides will be around 6am and 6-7pm.

Next Week

Weather

The first half the week looks warm (daily maxima of 23-25°C) and almost windless, just the gentle waft of land and sea breezes as the land-sea temperature ratio changes through the days and the nights. The sunshine will often be hazy, due to high cloud from French thunderstorms, spilling in our direction. There is a slim chance that we will catch some of that more exciting weather as well (currently Tuesday night looks most likely) and if we do then it could be very hefty downpour. The latter part of the week looks more average though, with mixed cloud and sunshine but most likely staying dry… force 3-4 WNW’ly breezes finishing our week with daily maxima of 20-21°C.

Surf and the Water

The surf will range between 1-3 feet on the relatively good days and virtually flat on the others. Monday and Tuesday look most likely to produce the quality. Swimming conditions should be lovely on most coasts, through most of the week, but more confined to the south and east on Thursday and Friday. Tides will be low in the mornings and high in the afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday…
