Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 16 August 2024

Friday

Weather

A drizzly and foggy start, but with a gradual improvement through the morning, until it is simply dry but rather cloudy. The afternoon will probably see a little sunshine, but emphasis on the word little, so there won’t be very much change in temperature at all… most of the day the air temperature will hover around that of the surrounding sea… 18-19°C, but at the very best we will nudge up to 20°C in most areas and maybe 21°C in Town. The wind will be very light, just a force 2-3 WNW’ly, so at least it won’t feel cold.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be 2-3 feet… a bit sloppy but reasonably clean due to the lightness of the onshore wind. Swimming conditions will be good all around the Island but especially in the east and south. Tides will be low at 10:30am and high at 4:40pm (7.2m).

The Weekend

Weather

Saturday will be no warmer than on Friday (20 or 21°C at best), but a much more pleasant day weather-wise. Dry with mixed cloud and sunshine, great visibility and just a light force 2-3 NNW’ly breeze. This means that all areas will be comfortable but the south-coast beaches will really be the cream of the crop. Moving on to Sunday, the weather will be just as dry but the cloud to sunshine ratio should shift in favour of the sunshine, especially during the afternoon. On that occasion the winds will be light force 3 WNW’ly, so the east coast will be the most perfect area to feel warm and comfortable#. The temperature just a degree higher than on Saturday… peaking at 21°C in most areas but 22°C in Town.

Surf and the Water

Semi-clean 2-3 foot surf. Decent swimming conditions in most areas but definitely best of all along the east and south coasts. Low tides will be around midday, high tides will be around dawn and dinnertime (increasing from 7.3m on Saturday morning to 8.6m on Sunday evening).

Next Week

Weather

At the moment, Tuesday and Friday look like the only days with the threat of a shower or two. However, these might fall in the night time and they might be so few and far between that they simply miss the Islands and cruise by on the horizon. The winds will generally be very light W’ly or SW’ly but they will be a little stronger at times (again Tuesday and Friday look most likely for this). Temperatures (with the air coming from this direction) will never be especially hot, but there will be moments when the lightest winds combine with the strongest sunshine, meaning that those days could see max temperatures of between 22 and 24°C, whilst the other days only manage to peak between 20 and 22°C.

Surf and the Water

The surf will most likely be around 2 feet on Monday and Tuesday, then 3-4 feet through the rest of the week. Tides will be high in the mornings and around dusk… increasing in in size, with Monday morning’s high being just 8.6m and Friday evenings being 9.7m. Low tides will be in the afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
