Monday
Weather
Mostly sunny, but sometimes that sunshine will be made soft and hazy by the approach of high cirrus cloud from the west. Winds will be very light at first… force 2 SSW’ly, picking up to a force 3 S’ly by lunchtime, then a moderate force 4 (or perhaps fresh force 5) SW’ly during the night time. This wind direction always brings relatively warm air, so with the addition of sunshine we should easily climb to a max of 22°C. Then, during the night time, with a thick blanket of cloud and a couple of brief rainy episodes, the temperature will fall no lower than 17°C.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean surf all day… 2-3 feet in the morning, 1-2 feet later. Swimming conditions will generally be great on all coasts, but it will be very slightly choppier on the south coast at times. High tide will be around 7am and 7:30pm (8.6m and 9.2m respectively). Low tide will be around 1:30pm.
Tuesday
Weather
We will wake up to puddles from the overnight rain, but it’s not certain whether there will be any further rain during daylight hours. A scattering of showers will move eastwards up the Channel late morning, but there is a chance that the Islands will slip between the cracks and stay dry. Either way, there will be quite a perky breeze all day (a force 4 to 5 W’ly) and there will be lots of sunshine in the afternoon. Max temperature 20°C in most places but probably 21°C in Town.
Surf and the Water
Choppy 4-5 foot surf on the west coast. Super smooth swimming conditions on the east coasts. High tide will be around 8am and 8pm (9.2m and 9.7m respectively). Low tide will be around 2:15pm.
Wednesday and Thursday
Weather
Wednesday will be a day of decreasing cloud and wind, but Thursday will be the opposite. Therefore the second half of Wednesday and the first half of Thursday will be the moments to make the most of. Wednesday obviously the best evening for barbecues etc. Thursday evening might even be wet actually, because there is a chance that some overnight rain will arrive earlier than currently anticipated. Winds will be W’ly on Wednesday (light force 3, graduallly decreasing light force 1-2), then they will be SSW’ly on Thursday (light force 2-3, gradually increasing moderate force 4). Max temperatures 21 and 22°C respectively.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be 4-5 feet and a little choppy (not too rough) on Wednesday, then 2-3 feet and quite a lot cleaner on Thursday. Generally, swimming conditions will be best along the east coast, but the west and north coasts will also have some smooth corners on Thursday. Tides will be high at breakfast time and shortly after dusk (ranging from 9.5m to 10m). Low tides will be in the mid-afternoons.
Friday and The Weekend
Weather
Ex-hurricane Ernesto, will affect Britain through Friday, followed by another couple of more ordinarily unsettled days over the weekend. Fortunately, the Channel Islands will be far enough south to escape the worst of the weather, but we will certainly have a few downpours and strong winds to deal with on Friday, especially through lunchtime and the afternoon, when fresh force 5 SW’ly winds could bring as much as 15-20mm of rainfall. Saturday should be dry and bright, but it might take quite a long time for the wind to simmer down to just a light force 3 W’ly. Sunday will probably be dry, but there is the slim chance of a few light showers. However, it must be noted that forecast confidence is always pretty low, when ex-hurricanes are involved, so don’t be too surprised if the next update yields a few changes. Temperatures are quite hard to predict under the circumstances, but the most likely daily maxima will be about 21°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will pick up to about 6 feet by Saturday and then 4 feet on Sunday. Generally, swimming conditions will be best along the east coast, but the South and north coasts will also have some smooth corners. Tides will be high in late mornings (gradually decreasing from 9.7m to 8.4m). Low tides will be in the mid to late afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday morning…
