Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 26 August 2024

Tuesday

Weather

The hottest day of the week, and possibly the hottest day of the month. 24°C is currently the expected max, but 25°C is quite possible. The reason for this heat is firstly, the copious sunshine, but secondly (and perhaps more importantly) the light force 3 SE’ly breeze. This gentle wind will mean that hot French landmass shares a generous portion of it’s heat with us. As such, our max temp will be quite late in the day… around 5 or 6pm, about 2 hours later than France’s max temp, because it will take that time for their heat to reach us. The evening will be lovely and warm until well after dusk, so it will be fantastic for barbecues etc. After that, the night will gradually cool to a minimum of about 16°C.

Surf and the Water

Fantastic swimming/kayaking/paddle-boarding conditions on all coasts. The west-coast surf will only be 1-2 feet but it will be super-clean all day, so there should be some fun moments for people with big boards. Tides will be low around 6:45am and 7:20pm. High tide will be 7.2m at 12:50pm.

Wednesday

Weather

Not quite so warm on this day. Although the WNW’ly wind will be very light indeed.. just force 2 in the morning and force 3 in the afternoon, there will be no more of that continental influence, so the morning sunshine will only take us to 22 or maybe 23°C. After that, skies will be rather cloudy, as an old decaying weather front passes overhead. We will probably stay dry though, because there is only the slimmest chance of a late afternoon or evening shower.

Surf and the Water

Marginally larger surf than on Tuesday… mainly 2 feet, but with the odd 3 footer here and there. Super smooth and clean conditions until late afternoon. After that, the west-coast surf will be a little choppy, but the south and east coasts will still be lovely for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding. Tides will be low around 8am and high around 2:20pm (just a tiddler… 6.7m).

Thursday and Friday

Weather

High pressure will move over Ireland, and the clockwise circulation will mean that our wind (still very gentle) gradually changes to become a N’ly and then a NE’ly. Neither of these wind directions are very warm, so we will probably peak at just 21°C each day, despite almost unbroken sunshine. The visibility will be sparkling, so the views should be absolutely gorgeous under the bright blue skies. Night time temperatures will be on the low side, on Thursday night in particular… 11°C the most likely minimum.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will only be 1-2 feet but it should be pretty clean and it should rideable if you have a big board. Pretty smooth conditions for swimming, paddle-boarding and kayaking all around the Island but the south coast will be best of all. Tides will be low in the late mornings and high in the late afternoons (6.8m and 7.3m respectively).

The Weekend

Weather

Two more days of solid sunshine and NE’ly breezes. A little stronger than the previous days though… probably moderate force 4. Temperatures might sneak slightly higher than the previous days… 22°C the most likely minimum, but the increase in the breeze means that you will have to find a sheltered spot to really feel the benefit.

Surf and the Water

I’m afraid the surf is looking pretty close to flat, but it’s still a long way off, so there could be a sneaky little pulse that isn’t really evident in the forecast models just yet. Swimming conditions should be best along the south coast and in a few corners of the west coast bays. Tides will be high around breakfast-time and dinnertime (increasing incrementally from 7.4m to 8.3m). Low tides will be at lunchtime.

The next forecast update will be on Thursday morning…
