Guernsey Weather Fox

Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 11 September 2024

Thursday

Weather

With showers, it's always a bit hit and miss. However, there are definitely more showers in the area through Thursday than there were on Wednesday, so it's unlikely that we will stay totally dry. Winds will still be rather brisk, which means the showers will move through quite swiftly. However, there's certainly the chance that they will be rather heavy at times. If you aren’t wearing a jacket because of the possibility of rain, then it would still be a good idea just to stay a bit warmer. Max temps will only be a pathetic 15°C and the rather gusty force 3-4 NW’ly wind will make it feel even cooler.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be about 3 feet and choppy (although reasonably clean for the early morning session). Swimming conditions will be lovely on the south and east coasts all day long. Tides will be low at breakfast time and dinnertime. High tide will be at lunchtime (miniscule… only 6.7m).

Friday and The Weekend

Weather

Friday and Saturday look super-sunny, with beautifully light (barely noticeable) breezes. Albeit so light, Friday's breeze will be coming down from the north, so it will maintain the general coolness that we experienced through Wednesday and Thursday. That said, there will be so much sunshine that, temperatures should climb about a degree higher and it should feel much more comfortable in all parts of the Island, especially the south. Saturday’s breeze, will be similarly light but wafting in from the south and therefore lifting temperatures higher again. Likewise on Sunday, although skies will be a little cloudier, the mild SW’ly airflow will continue the upward trend in temperatures. The maxima for the three days should be 16°C, 17°C and 18°C respectively.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be much cleaner than previous days, but it’s also going to be rather small/tiny… possibly 2-3 feet at times, but for the majority of the time it will only be about 1 foot. Swimming conditions will be lovely though, and this is really the time of year when it is important to take advantage of the preciously warm water (roughly 18°C) before it becomes rather frigid again. Tides will be low in the mornings and high in the afternoons… initially tiny on Friday (just 6.6m for the high), then slightly bigger over the weekend with highs of 7.2m and 8m respectively.

Next Week

Weather

Apart from some spits and spots of rain, along with the cloudy skies, on Monday morning, we are looking at a week of sunshine and warmth. The only fly in the ointment being that the ENE’ly wind will become rather brisk… only light force 2-3 on Monday and Tuesday, but then moderate force 4 on Wednesday and perhaps even fresh force 5 through Thursday and Friday. These winds will bring warm air though, so temperatures should return to the low twenties… rising by about a degree per day Monday and Tuesday and then flat-lining around 22°C from Wednesday to Friday.

Surf and the Water

There I the suggestion of some quality clean 2-3 foot surf on Tuesday and maybe also late Monday and early Wednesday. Current signal suggest flatness thereafter, but it’s a long way off so there is still hope for better. Swimming conditions should be lovely everywhere on Monday and Tuesday, then confined to the south and west coasts from Wednesday onward. Tidal movements will be very large by the end of the week (peaking at 10.3m on Thursday evening).

The next forecast update will be on Saturday…
