Saturday
Weather
A gorgeously sunny day, with only a few bubbles of cumulus cloud, mainly in the morning. The air is inherently cold at the moment, no doubt you’ve noticed this and enjoyed the incredible visibility that came with it. However, with barely a breath of wind all day, the power of the sunshine should lift temperatures from single figures at dawn to between 17°C and 18°C by mid-afternoon.
Surf and the Water
If there is a surfable wave then it will only be about knee-high to a child, but it will at least be super-clean, so a cruisy longboard/SUP ride is not entirely impossible. Swimming conditions will be divine all around the Island, all day long. The tiny tidal movements will be captured by a 3.7m low around 10:15am and a 7m high around 4:30pm.
Sunday and Monday
Weather
Quite a lot of cloud will arrive in the sky towards the end of Sunday and then stay there through much of Monday. However, it will be high cloud, so the sunshine will never disappear entirely, but just change from really bright on Sunday morning and early afternoon, to hazy by Sunday evening and then really quite weak through most of Monday. That said, the air will be getting slightly warmer all by itself, because the very gentle S’ly on Sunday and then NE’ly on Monday, will subtly give the elbow to the cold air of the previous days. Max temps should be between 18°C and 19°C. Min temps around 12°C.
Surf and the Water
A new 2-3 foot swell should be here for Monday, and there is just a chance that it may be here in time for Sunday evening. Both days will be windless enough that whatever surf we do get will be lovely and clean. Likewise, swimming conditions will be lovely and smooth in all bays. The tidal range will be getting larger though, so you will have to pick your location according to you preferred water level/beach coverage. The lows will be close to midday and the highs will be shortly before dawn and shortly before dusk (picking up from 7.4m to 8.8m).
The Rest of Next Week
Weather
With sunshine getting much brighter again, we should see temperatures climb to 20°C or 21°C each day. It won’t necessarily feel any warmer though, because a force 4-5 ENE’ly wind will come with it. The best places to find shelter and therefore to feel a bit more warmth, will be along the south coast and in the northern corners of the west-coast bays.
Surf and the Water
There I the suggestion of some quality clean 2-3 foot surf on Tuesday and maybe also late Monday and early Wednesday. Current signal suggest flatness thereafter, but it’s a long way off so there is still hope for better. Swimming conditions should be lovely everywhere on Monday and Tuesday, then confined to the south and west coasts from Wednesday onward. Tidal movements will be very large by the end of the week (peaking at 10.3m on Thursday evening).
The next forecast update will be on Monday…
