Friday
Weather
Another gorgeously sunny day with a moderate force 4 NE’ly wind. It was already starting to look quite hazy through Thursday, compared to the outstanding visibility of previous days. This fuzziness will thicken through Friday, and it will be most noticeable at sunrise and sunset, which should therefore be particularly beautiful and atmospheric. In between those golden hours, it should feel lovely and warm (especially on the south coast), with a max temp of 20°C.
Surf and the Water
Whatever surf there is (probably 1-2 feet) will be once again ruined by the strength and the direction of the wind. However, like previous days again, the south coast and a few sheltered corners of the west-coast bays will have reasonably smooth water for swimmers especially towards high tide. Those highs will be 10m at 8:50am and 10.2m at 9:20pm. Low tide will be at 3:15pm.
Saturday
Weather
The first noticeable difference will be the incredible reduction in wind, falling to a barely noticeable force 2 ESE’ly. The sky will also be full of developmental clouds… a pretty jellyfish appearance in the morning, then a gradual enlarging and spreading through lunchtime and early afternoon… turning the sky from blue to grey and then finally (probably by dinnertime) allowing some fairly heavy showers to fall. There is a chance they could be thundery, so maybe we will be treated to a bit of a lightshow in the evening. Once again, 20°C should be the max temp for the day.
Surf and the Water
In a rather cruel twist of fate, the wind becomes perfect for surfing on precisely the same day that it goes completely flat. At least this will expand the options for swimmers though, and also make it more possible for kayaking and paddle-boarding. Tides will still be very large but not quite so massive… high water will be 9.8m at 9:30am, low water will be at 3:50pm.
Sunday
Weather
Saturday night’s showers will probably linger into Sunday morning, and the could be very slow-moving whilst the winds are just force 1-2 and variable. Then we should be into sunny skies for the afternoon, with a light force 3 WNW’ly breeze developing. Max temps a little lower than previous days, probably not exceeding 18°C.
Surf and the Water
There might just be enough surf for longboarders and young kids, and it will be relatively clean because the onshore wind will be light. Once again, other activities like swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding should all be good. Particularly, on this day, along the south and east coasts. Tides will be high in the mid-mornings (9.8m Sat and 9.4m Sun) and low in the late afternoons.
Next Week
Weather
An unsettled week. Monday and Tuesday definitely the calmest with respect to wind (light force 3 WNW’ly) although there could still be a few showers on Monday and then quite a long spell of rain on Tuesday evening. Wednesday and Thursday are set to have fresh force 5 or possibly strong force 6 SW’ly winds and plenty of rain from time to time. Friday then possibly reverting to the relative calmness of Monday and Tuesday. Daily max temps are likely to be 17-18°C on Monday, Tuesday and maybe Wednesday, then just 16-17 through the rest of the week.
Surf and the Water
Surf-wise, it looks as though Monday and Tuesday will either be totally flat or very close to that. Wednesday and Thursday then promise some decent sized waves (3-5 feet) and some great conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing too. Friday is a long way off, but it currently looks as though winds will fall light and waves will fall small, meaning that there could be some reasonably clean wibbly-wobbly leftovers. Tides will shrink from medium-large to absolutely tiny… the biggest high being 8.7m on Monday morning (10:45am) and the smallest high being 6.5m on Thursday afternoon (2pm).
The next forecast update will be on Monday morning…
