Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 15 October 2024

Wednesday

Weather

Moderate force 4 SSE’ly winds will bring cloudy skies though the morning, with a few heavy showers likely. However, it won’t be until lunchtime that things turn really quite nasty, with rain setting in for the rest of the afternoon, probably giving 10-20mm (enough for some very large puddles and possibly even a little flash-flooding). Not only this, but the cloud will be low enough for everywhere to be misty and for the higher parishes to spend much of the time in fog. So it’s not exactly a gorgeous day according to most people’s standards, but it will at least be warmer than average, hovering around 18°C for the entire day.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean 2 foot surf, gradually increasing to 3 feet. Swimmers will find the smoothest water along the north coast and in some sheltered west-coast nooks. Tides will be high at 6:20am and 6:40pm (9.1m and 9.6m). Low tide will be at 12:40pm.

Thursday

Weather

Through Wednesday night, the breeze will have switched to force 3-4 WSW’ly, which will have chased all the rain away. Through the morning, it will gradually chase the cloud away too, leaving us with a largely sunny afternoon. Temperatures will actually be a degree or two lower than on Wednesday, but the vast improvement in the weather will make it feel relatively gorgeous, especially along the east coast.

Surf and the Water

The surf will crank up to a solid 6 feet but it will be a little choppy, compared to the previous days. Swimming conditions will be best along the north and east coasts. Tides will be high at 7am and 7:20pm (9.7m and 10m respectively). Low tides will be at 1:30pm.

Friday and the Weekend

Weather

Thursday’s oasis of sunshine will be chased away by strong force 4-5 SSW’ly wind on Friday. Skies will be cloudy throughout the day, but it probably won’t turn wet until the afternoon, and then that rain probably won’t turn heavy until the night time. Saturday and Sunday will then repeat the sequence... Saturday dry and sunny (much like Thursday), Sunday, wet and windy (even more so than Friday). Temperatures will be on a steady increase though, with a max of 15-16°C on Friday, then 17°C on Saturday and 18°C on Sunday.

Surf and the Water

Choppy 6 foot surf on Saturday, bookended by clean 4-5 foot surf on Friday and Sunday. As for the swimming conditions, they will mostly be best at Pembroke and L’Ancresse, except on Saturday when the east coast will be smoothest. The tides will be very large (big splashes along the west coast each day, and also along the east coast on Sunday). Highs will be around breakfast time and in the evenings (between 8 and 10pm). The biggest tides will be through Friday and Saturday… roughly 10m. Then they will be slightly smaller on Sunday, with highs of 9.8m and 9.5m respectively.

Next Week

Weather

Generally another unsettled week, nothing too sinister, but constantly up and down… dry and bright one day then cloudy with showers the next. Winds are generally looking moderate in strength, never likely to be stronger than force 4, coming from the south or the west, so generally on the mild side... pretty standard Autumn conditions all round. Max temps typically between 15 and 17°C, min temps typically between 10 and 13°C.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be clean on some days and a little choppy on others… generally ranging between 3 and 5 feet. Tides will be shrinking back from the full-moon springs… starting the week with a high of 9.3m and finishing with a high of just 6.5m.

The next forecast update will on Saturday evening…
