Sunday
Weather
Storm Ashley day… not really our problem, it will be focussed on northwest Britain. However, we still won’t have the best of days… a morning of persistent rain and strong force 6 S’ly winds, then a drier but still cloudy afternoon, with force 4-5 SW’ly winds. Grim as all that sounds, it won’t be cold… 17-18°C for the daytime max then 13-14°C for the overnight min.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean and solid 4-6 foot surf and some amazing windsurfing conditions too. Tides will be big and quite troublesome on the east coast in the morning. High water will be 9.8m at 9:05am, then low water will be at 3:30pm.
Monday
Weather
A small-scale low pressure system will pass over Brittany, either giving us a very wet day or possibly keeping all that wetness just a few miles to the south. There has to be an edge to every downpour and this is one of those occasions when we will be so close to the divide that we are just as likely to be on the wet side as on the dry side. The wind is a bit more predictable though, very light all day… force 2-3 S’ly in the morning, becoming variable force 1-2 early afternoon, then W’ly by evening. The temperature will be a few degrees lower than the weekend though… only peaking between 14 and 15°C but feeling pretty comfortable due to the gentleness of the wind.
Surf and the Water
Another day of super-clean and super-powerful surf… 6-8 feet all day. Smooth swimming conditions in sheltered areas, such as Pembroke in the morning or along the east coast in the afternoon. Tides will be 9.3m high at 9:45am and then low at 4:10pm.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
A couple of beautifully sunny days, thanks to a high pressure system setting over the Channel. The breeze will be extremely light (SW’ly on Tuesday and SE’ly on Wednesday), so the sunshine will feel very pleasant, but we will have the same cool air as on Monday still sitting over the Islands, so temperatures probably won’t exceed 15°C on either day. The nights could be very chilly, with starry skies taking us down into single figures.
Surf and the Water
Clean 5 foot surf on Tuesday and then really really clean 4 foot surf on Wednesday. Tides will be high in the late mornings… 8.6m and 7.8m respectively. Low tides will be in the late afternoons.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
Thursday morning will likely be as sunny as the previous days, but the afternoon will become vey cloudy and the evening quite showery. All the while with a strengthening S’ly wind. By midnight, that wind will strong force 6 and then by dawn Friday, it will veer W’ly and bring an alternating sequence of sunny spells and heavy showers. Temperatures will peak around 15-16°C on Thursday, then just 14-15°C on Friday.
Surf and the Water
Thursday will be another day of super-clean surf (about 2-3 feet), then Friday will be choppy but bigger (4-5 feet). Thursday’s swimming conditions will be best in sheltered west-coast nooks, then Fridays will be best along the east coast. Tidal movements will be very small, with highs around lunchtime… 7.1m and 6.7m respectively.
The next forecast update will on Tuesday evening …
