Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 06 November 2024

Thursday

Weather

A misty and murky start, with the potential for some more flight disruption during the morning. However, it looks as though things should improve in the afternoon or perhaps even a little sooner. Skies will remain cloudy though, with temperatures therefore remaining steady around 13-14°C, just like the previous days. Winds will be moderate force 4 ESE’ly, which is a bit perkier than the previous days, so it will probably feel as though it’s cooler even if the numbers are the same

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be 1-2 feet and super-clean. Likewise, that coast will be best for swimming as well. Shrinking tidal movements, with a high of 7.7m on this day (at 9:20am). Low tide will be around 3:45pm, with very little daylight available after that.

Friday

Weather

Just the slim chance of one or two foggy moments, as the low cloud will be patchy, only briefly bumping into the high ground of the Island from time to time. Winds will be force 3-4 ESE’ly in the morning, decreasing light force 2-3 in the afternoon. Temperatures will be pretty much identical to the previous few days, remaining steadily between 12 and 14°C, due to the constant cloud cover.

Surf and the Water

Perhaps the best surfing day of the week, with super-clean 3-4 foot waves and smaller tidal movements again. This time the high will be about 7.3m at 10:20am and the low will be at 4:40pm… pretty much bang on dusk. Once again, swimming conditions will be best along the west coast (and also the north coast on this occasion).

The Weekend

Weather

Finally a bit of a change… some patchy rain in the first half of Saturday and in the second half of Sunday, due to an overturning of the air in the atmosphere, allowing clouds to become tall and slim instead of wide and shallow. This also means that the risk of fog will be completely gone and it also means that there will be patches of blue sky in between the clouds. We might even be able to see that old familiar golden sky-disc, for the first time this month… what a treat that would be. Winds will be nice and light… force 2-3 S’ly. Temperatures probably peaking at 13-14°C, but possibly just sneaking up to 15°C if we do get lucky with that sunshine.

Surf and the Water

Glassy 2 foot surf on Saturday, followed by similarly silky 3 foot surf on Sunday. Swimming conditions will be lovely on all coasts, especially around high tide, which will be very well-timed at 11:20am on Saturday and then at 12:50pm on Sunday (both 7.1m).

Next Week

Weather

Winds will be NE’ly to start the week and NW’ly to finish. As I’m sure you’ve already guessed, that’s the recipe for a significant reduction in temperatures, with daily maxima gradually falling from this Friday’s mid-teens to next Friday’s 10 or 11°C. Monday to Wednesday should be mostly dry and bright, just the slight chance of a brief light shower at times. Thursday and Friday could be a lot wetter though, with blustery showers becoming increasingly heavy and frequent.

Surf and the Water

For most of the week the tides will be low in the mornings and high in the afternoons, but on Thursday and Friday the highs will only be during the hours of darkness and the lows will be close to midday. Big spring tides by the end of the week too (roughly 9.5m on Friday). Surf-wise, we are looking at slightly choppy 1-3 foot waves for the most part, but sometimes the cross-shore wind will be light enough to really clean things up. As for the best swimming conditions, they will generally be along the south coast.

The next forecast update will be on Saturday morning…
