Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 20 November 2024

Wednesday

Weather

Sunny spells and the odd shower, mainly during the morning or perhaps at lunchtime. Although these showers will be few and far between, they will be rather heavy and probably with hail, so be sure to keep an eye on the horizon. Wind-wise, it will be much gentler than the previous couple of days, but it will be very chilly (force 3-4 NNW’ly), making the max temp of 8-9°C feel more like 5-6°C. Overnight (after midnight) things will become a little more dramatic, with the arrival of persistent rain and a strong force 6 SE’ly wind.

Surf and the Water

3-4 foot surf, pretty clean early morning but choppy by lunchtime. Swimming conditions will generally be best on the south coast, although all coasts will be pretty smooth at dawn and the east coast will also be pretty smooth at dusk. High tide will be 8.6m at 9am. Low tide will be at 3:40pm.

Thursday

Weather

The howling (force 5-7) SE’ly wind will bring persistent rain in the morning, possibly turning to sleet at times. The afternoon will then turn to a sunshine and hail showers scenario, and the wind will be NE’ly by then. Feeling really cold, with a max of just 5-6°C, which feels more like a mere 1°C.

Surf and the Water

The offshore wind will probably be too strong for the weak 1-2 foot waves to push against. High tide will be 8.1m at 9:50am. Low tide will be at 4:30pm.

Friday

Weather

Another day of sunny spells and occasional hail showers, not too dissimilar from Wednesday. However, on this occasion the wind will be a moderate force 4 WNW’ly, so the east coast will feel a little more sheltered and perhaps a tiny bit more comfortable. Max temps will be much the same though… 8-9°C. Also similar to Wednesday, will be the overnight period… starting clear and relatively calm, but finishing up very wet and windy.

Surf and the Water

Choppy 4 foot surf on the west coast. Smooth swimming conditions on the east coast and in a few sheltered south-coast nooks. High tide will be 7.4m at 10:40am. Low tide will be at 5:20pm.

The Weekend

Weather

A couple of very mild, wet and windy days. There will be the usual risk of hill fog that comes with a soggy SSW’ly wind. However, because it will be so strong (force 6-7) and the rain will be quite heavy, we will probably be dealing with mist patches rather than fog patches. Flight disruption can still be expected though… wet runways and turbulent cross-winds usually lead to some minor delays. Temperatures will be pretty rock-steady… between 11 and 13°C day and night.

Surf and the Water

Clean surf throughout, 3 feet on Saturday morning, increasing to about 8 feet by Sunday evening. Tidal movements will be very small, with highs of about 7.1m at 11:45 am Saturday, then 7m at 1pm Sunday.

Next Week

Weather

An up and down week, but certainly not as dramatic as the current week. Some brisk winds and showers are likely on Monday, Thursday and Friday, but it should be comfortably mild. Tuesday and Wednesday should be dry and sunny, but the gentle NE’ly breezes will bring colder air on those days.

Surf and the Water

Tiny tides to start the week, medium-large tides to finish… lows in the mornings and highs in the afternoons. Surf-wise, we will probably start off with messy 4-5 foot waves and finish up with clean 2-3 foot waves.

The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
