Tuesday
Weather
A dry but mostly cloudy day, followed by a drizzly evening and night. There will be some brightness, especially in the early afternoon, which should allow us to reach a daytime max of 10°C. The actual max will come in the night time though, when the arrival of warmer air will take us up to 11 or 12°C. Winds will be moderate force 4 S’ly until mid-afternoon, then fresh force 5 until late evening, before veering to a strong force 6 SW’ly around midnight.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be clean but only 1-2 feet. Conditions will generally be better for windsurfing or kitesurfing. High water will be around dawn (9.1m). Low water will be around 2pm.
Wednesday
Weather
Fresh force 5 SW’ly winds, occasionally touching strong force 6 in the daytime, then more consistently blowing strong in the night time, as the wind gradually tilts round to a NW’ly direction. Weather-wise, it will pan out with virtually the same pattern as on Tuesday, but this time the evening rain will be a bit heavier. Temperature-wise, the daytime should reach 13°C, but you will have to find shelter to feel at all toasty. Overnight, we should gradually fall to a minimum of 7 or 8°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will still be fairly clean and this time it should be about 4 feet, making the waves much more rideable. High water will be around 8:15am (9m) and low tide will be around 2:50pm.
Thursday
Weather
Fresh and gusty NW’ly winds will bring long sunny periods and a few brief showers. These will be heaviest and most likely during the afternoon and night, when the tinkle of hailstones might even be heard on the roofs and windows. Temperatures will generally hover between 8 and 10°C, with the odd shower plunging us down to 7°C.
Surf and the Water
The different wind direction will mean that the south and east coasts are the only relatively pleasant places to be, so sea swimmers should enjoy those locations on this day. High water will be around 9am (8.7m) and low tide will be around 3:30pm.
Friday and The Weekend
Weather
Friday’s winds will be force 4-5 WSW’ly, then the weekend will generally blow force 5-6 WNW’ly, all maintaining a steady temperature of 10-12°C, with a few showers likely each day, and longer spells of rain expected each night. The driest day looks likely to be Saturday, and the sunniest day (albeit with heavier showers) looks likely to be Sunday.
Surf and the Water
Choppy 5-6 foot surf. A little cleaner at times, when the onshore wind falls a little lighter. The east coast will always be the most comfortable area for our cold-water swimmers. Tides will be high in the mid-mornings (shrinking day by day from 8.2m to 7.8m).
