Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 22 December 2024

### Monday

Weather

After the (let’s be honest) ridiculously annoying wind of the past few days, it will feel remarkably relaxing to step out of the house and be blown by nothing harder than a fresh force 5 NW’ly at breakfast time, a moderate force 4 at lunchtime and then just a light force 3 by dinner time. Not only is the wind story rather delightful, but the weather story will also be dry and partially sunny. The temperature won’t be anything special though, only peaking at 10°C in the daytime. During the night time, things will turn a bit topsy-turvy but nothing too sinister… the weather turning drizzly and misty, whilst the temperature actually climbs to a mega-mild 12°C.

Surf and the Water

High water will be just before midday (just 7m), meaning that the west coast should be surfable all day. The morning will be about 5-6 feet and messy, then the afternoon will gradually shrink to 3 feet but become increasingly clean. Swimming conditions will always be best on the south and east coasts, especially around midday.

Christmas Eve

Weather

A very cloudy and misty day, with occasional fog patches likely to cause a delay or two at the airport. Excellent seas for ferry crossings though, with WNW’ly breeze never stronger than light force 3. Temperatures will hover around 12°C day and night.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be 2-3 feet and increasingly clean, as the onshore breeze gradually reduces to almost nothing. Swimming conditions will be best on the east coast early morning, but then they should be good on all coasts through the rest of the day. Low water will be just before dawn, then high water will be just before 1am (just a tiddler, roughly 6.7m).

Christmas Day and Boxing Day

Weather

Christmas day is looking grey and rather misty again, but on the positive side it is going to be mild and virtually windless, making it really comfortable for all those pre or post lunch walks and general galavants. Speaking of which, the big Boxing Day dip is looking similarly blessed, perhaps even more so, because the gentle E’ly breeze might introduce a few breaks in the cloud-sheet, hopefully (but not promising) allowing a little soft sunshine to slip through. Max temps should be 12°C on Christmas Day, then 11°C on Boxing Day.

Surf and the Water

Just the gentlest of offshore breezes will make the west coast particularly good for festive swims and surfs. The waves at Vazon, and similarly exposed areas, will be 2-3 feet on Christmas Day and then a solid 4 feet on Boxing Day. Tides will be low at breakfast time. High water will be 6.7m at 2pm on Christmas Day and then 6.9m at 3pm on Boxing Day.

Friday and The Weekend

Weather

It will most likely be more of the same… mostly cloudy but mostly dry. Sure there is the chance of a few brighter moments, but equally the chance of a brief drizzly shower or two... just a chance though, nothing more definite than that. The overall story is rather bland, but let’s not complain too loudly… we wouldn’t want to agitate the old jetstream now would we. Max temps roughly 10°C each day.

Surf and the Water

The surf will remain beautifully clean, just shrinking a little though… 3 feet on Friday and then 2 feet through the weekend. Swimming conditions will generally be best along the west coast, but the other coasts will also be lovely when winds are particularly light (most likely on Saturday). Tides will be low in the late mornings and high in the early evenings, increasing incrementally from 7.1m to 7.9m.

The next forecast update will be on Boxing Day…
