Friday
Weather
Almost a carbon copy of Boxing day, with light force 2-3 E’ly breezes bringing cool damp and mizzly air, trapped at the bottom of a big high pressure system, meaning that we can’t expect to see any significant change from one hour to the next. The best we could hope for is a little afternoon brightness where the cloud is thinnest, rather like we saw on Christmas Day. Temperatures will be steady, hovering 8°C in the day time and around 6°C in the night time.
Surf and the Water
Another day of clean surf, slightly smaller and less powerful though… only 3 feet on the sets. Another great day for a winter swim, especially on the west coast, although the air will be slightly cooler than on Boxing Day. Low water will be around 10am and high water will around 4pm (7.1m).
The Weekend
Weather
Light and variable breezes will bring another day and a half of grey skies, occasional mist of fog patches, along with a little light drizzle. Sunday afternoon should brighten up though, as W’ly winds increase to force 3-4 and chase the murk away (finally). Temperatures should increase a little each day, with a max of 8-9°C towards the end of Saturday and then 10°C by late afternoon Sunday.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be around 2 feet and clean both days. Winds so light that all coasts will have smooth enough water for a pleasant winter swim. Tides will be low in the late mornings and high shortly after dusk… 7.5m Saturday and 7.8m Sunday.
Next Week
Weather
Monday to Wednesday will consist of increasing SW’ly winds (force 3-4 on Monday, 4-5 on Tuesday and force 6-7 on Wednesday). This will bring mild air consistently. Somewhat less predictable is when it will be wet and when it will be dry… at this early stage, it looks as though there will probably be some rainfall each day, but it should be dry for much more of the time. Thursday will then brighten up significantly, as the wind veers to a fresh force 5 WNW’ly, and then on Friday, it further veers to alight force 3 N’ly. Temperatures will take a downturn at this point though… having peaked at 11-12°C Monday to Wednesday, we will probably only reach 10°C on Thursday and then 9°C on Friday.
Surf and the Water
Clean surf in the first half of the week… 1-2 feet on Monday, 2-3 on Tuesday and 3-4 on Wednesday. Then Thursday looks like 3 feet and very messy, but Friday should be about 2 feet and clean again. Good windsurfing conditions on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. Tides will be low around dawn and high in the early afternoons, increasing from 8.1m on Monday to a peak of 8.7m on Thursday.
The next forecast update will on Sunday or Monday…
