Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 19 January 2025

Monday

Weather

A very very welcome day of sunshine... intermittent through the morning, then prolonged through the afternoon. This will come with a light force 3 ESE’ly breeze, meaning that everywhere should feel reasonably comfortable with slightly warmer air than the previous few days (peaking around 7°C), but it will be the west coast that feels nicest of all, especially in the afternoon, when the ebbing tide affords us a bit of beach to walk upon. Night time temperatures will bottom out around 4°C in the air and 0-1°C on the ground, meaning that a ground frost is likely in places.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean and powerful 6 foot surf, probably bigger on the reefs, making it an absolute classic day for experts… much like last Thursday. Tides will be high around 10:20am (7.9m) and low around 4:15pm.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon will likely be dry but cloudy. Much of the time in between will be wet though I’m afraid… nothing too heavy, mostly drizzle and perhaps a bit of mist. The wind will be largely unchanged from Monday (mostly a light force 3 ESE’ly but occasionally pepping up to moderate force 4). Temperatures peaking around 8-9°C each day, and falling to around 6-7°C during the nights.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean 3 foot surf, along with smooth swimming conditions (on all coasts but especially on the north). Tides will be high in the late mornings (7.6m and 7.1m respectively) and low shortly after dusk.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

There will have been quite a windshift overnight, having spent almost two weeks with a SE’ly, we will wake up on Thursday with a force 3-4 NW’ly, which will gradually swing round to a force 4-5 WSW’ly by dusk, and then it’s looking like a strong force SSW’ly for Friday, which will really feel very different indeed. Thursday’s weather will probably consist of a dry and bright morning followed by a wet afternoon. Friday, however, will likely be wet all day… some of it light and drizzly, some of it rather heavy. Temperatures will be on the mild side… peaking at 9-10°C on Thursday and then around 11-12°C on Friday. In both cases, those maxima will likely come in the late evenings, which goes to show that it has nothing to do with sunshine, but simply the importing of new air from milder and mositer origins.

Surf and the Water

Messy 3-5 foot surf on Thursday, followed by clean 6-8 foot surf on Friday. Great windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions on Friday too. If it’s swimming you’re keen on then the east coast will be great on Thursday, and so will L’Ancresse Bay on Friday (providing you aim for high tide). Tides will be high at lunchtime (6.8m and 6.7m respectively) and low around dawn.

The Weekend

Weather

Saturday morning will be dry and beautifully calm after the intense winds of Friday. However, a moderate SE’ly wind will be with us by dusk, veering to a fresh S’ly overnight and then a gusty SW’ly on Sunday. The gustiness will mainly be associated with the heavy showers that will have developed… many of them missing the Islands but some of the delivering a short sharp soaking. Temperatures will be on the mild side again, hovering between 9 and 11°C throughout the days and the nights.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be mostly clean and fairly big… roughly 6 foot on both days. Both days good for windsurfing and kitesurfing too (only towards the end of the day on Saturday though). Tides will be low around 9:10am Saturday and at 10:15am Sunday. High tides will be in the late afternoons (6.8m and 7.3m respectively).

The next forecast update will on Tuesday evening or on Wednesday morning…
