Guernsey Weather Fox

Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 25 January 2025

Saturday

Weather

A largely sunny day compared to most of late. Lovely light winds too (force 2-3), making for a comfortable max temp of 9°C. The direction of the breeze, albeit verry light, will be NNE’ly in the morning, which will make the south coast a slightly favoured location. In the afternoon, the breeze will be ESE’ly, slightly favouring the west coast.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be 6 feet and clean, and the wind/weather will lend itself to sea swimmers much more than the other days in this forecast period. Tidal movements will be very small, with low water at 9am, then high water (just 6.8m) at 3:15pm).

Sunday

Weather

The total opposite of Saturday... very wet and very windy. Although Storm Eowyn was a more intense storm, it was so far away that it was no big deal for the Channel Islands. Sunday’s storm is perhaps not intense enough to be named yet, but for the Channel Islands it will be much windier and wetter than the previous. Winds will be S’ly on this occasion, generally strong force 6 to 7 day and night, but there are couple of times when we will briefly step up to gale force 8 (late morning and late evening) and the gusts could be as strong as 55-60mph.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be 4 feet and super-clean, but really hard to manage against the strength of the offshore wind. Windsurfers should have an epic time, both on the west coast and the north. Tidal movements will be slightly bigger than the previous days, with low water at 10:15am, then high water (7.5m) at 4:20pm).

Monday to Wednesday

Weather

Monday will be very windy, just like Sunday, but the wind direction more SW’ly and the rain not so prolonged but rather falling as brief heavy showers. Tuesday will see a wind-shift to a force 5-6 WNW’ly and this will bring sunny spells and only the smallest chance of one or two light showers. Wednesday then looks just like Sunday, which was very wet and very windy, with near-gale force S’ly winds and prolonged heavy rainfall. All three days (and nights) should be very close to 10°C, which is nice and mild, but Tuesday’s weather is the only one that will allow you to enjoy it at all.

Surf and the Water

Huge surf on Monday, proper colossal (and quite clean). Take care whilst watching this rare spectacle. More moderately massive on Tuesday and Wednesday… choppy on Tuesday but super-clean on Wednesday. Tides will be low around midday. High tides will be shortly before dawn and shortly after dusk… 8m Monday, 8.3m Tuesday, 8.9m Wednesday.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

NE’ly breezes will be moderate force 4 on Thursday and then light force 3 on Friday, allowing us all to breathe a sigh of relief, under increasingly dry and sunny conditions. Nothing is ever too certain in a week of ups and downs such as this. However, if these current expectations come to fruition, then next weekend should commence with some very relaxed and pleasant winter strolling, especially down on the south-coast cliff-paths and beaches.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be made a little choppy by the cross-shore breeze, but the south coast may well have some smaller gems. The main west-coast breaks will most likely be around 8-10 feet on Thursday and 4-6 feet on Friday. Tides will be high around dawn and low in the early afternoons. Highs will be about 9.1m Thursday, 9.2m Friday.

The next forecast update will on Monday evening…
