Tuesday
Weather
Very similar weather to Monday, just a change of wind from Monday’s SW’ly to Tuesday’s W’ly AM/WNW’ly PM. The wind strength will still be force 6 and very gusty… the gustiness mainly associated with the passage of heavy showers (some with hail). Temperatures will peak at 9°C, but the wind-chill will make it feel more like 3-4°C.
Surf and the Water
Enormous surf again… very nearly as massive as on Monday, but not as clean. That said, Pembroke should still hold decent rideable waves for surfers though (and an excellent playing field for windsurfers). Tides will be 8.4m high before dawn and after dusk, low tide be around midday.
Wednesday
Weather
Further heavy rain on this day, but not in the form of short/sharp showers, this time prolonged and therefore adding up to much greater quantities. The afternoon will be the most intense period, so it’s quite possible that we will see some flash flooding in prone areas. Wind-wise, because a low pressure system will be passing right over us, we will have a force 4-6 SSE’ly on the approach (morning and afternoon), then a NNE’ly on departure (through the evening and night). Temperatures much like the previous days, peaking around 9°C but feeling quite a lot chillier.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 5-6 foot surf on the west coast, perhaps not as awe-inspiring as the previous days but excellent nonetheless. Tides will be high shortly before dawn (8.9m) and low around 12:50pm.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
As Wednesday’s low pulls away to the east, we will see a couple of dry and mostly sunny days, with a force 4 NNW’ly wind on Thursday and, an almost calm night, then a light force 2-3 SW’ly on Friday. This should make for some pleasant afternoons, peaking around 8 and 9°C respectively. Thursday night could be a proper chilly one though, dropping to around 2-3°C in the air, with frost forming down on the ground and on car windscreens.
Surf and the Water
Thursday’s 6 foot surf will be a bit choppy on the west coast, but there will be some super-clean but smaller waves to be ridden on the south coast. Friday will have clean west-coast waves of around 3 feet. Both days good for cold-water sea-swimming… focussing on the south coast on Thursday, but then on all coasts for Friday. Tides will be high around dawn and low in the early afternoon.
The Weekend
Weather
A couple of mostly sunny and settled days, with just the chance of some rain during the night that separates them. Saturday’s breeze will be a light force 2-3 S’ly or SSE’ly, then Sunday’s breeze will be virtually flat calm. This means really comfortable conditions for outdoor activity. Max temperatures of around 9 and 10°C respectively, and with no wind-chill to spoil it.
Surf and the Water
Gorgeously clean surf on the west coast, and super-smooth swimming conditions all around the Island. The wave-heights will probably be on the increase too… likely 4-5 feet on the Saturday, then perhaps as much as 6-8 feet on Sunday. Tides will be high around breakfast time and low in the mid-afternoons.
The next forecast update will on Thursday evening…
